Bargain Boast!

I’ve been thinking… what’s the best bargain you’ve managed to bag, recently, and what’s your all-time best bargain? It’s time to boast about it, so share your best bargains, and see what other people have to say! 😊

My most recent ones were in the Asda sale. Bras for £1.35, tops for 90p, jeans for £2.50, shoes for £3, dress for £5. I saved way more than I spent.

I won an auction on ebay recently for a couple of fuji bridge cameras for £1.71 plus £3.99 postage. One sold as faulty and the other as incomplete. I haven't tested one as I'm waiting for the battery and charger from aliexpress which was about £10 however the other which was meant to be faulty seems to be operating perfectly and what was a so called issue with the zoom appears to be just a sticky switch which cured itself quickly just by moving it back and forth a few times and at worst might need a bit of switch cleaner. Both cameras came in what can only be described as new condition, they looked like shop stock that had been put in the back room due to faults. The AV cables were still sealed. These are older cameras yet appear new. They are based on CCD technology which I prefer over CMOS as it gives more film like results with more vivid colours and you don't get rolling shutter effects of CMOS. Typically CCD is a slower sensor so not as great for high resolution video with a high frame rate but a bit like Plasma TV's in that in many ways still better than newer technology in some areas. Anyone who has watched CEX prices will see a huge increase in the cost of older compact, bridge and DSLR cameras as photography enthusiasts are forced to go secondhand as many people just use their phones nowadays making new camera models less economic and so supply and demand kicks in for s/hand cameras. Chinese designed and manufactured compact digital cameras are frankly awful and don't even compare to Japanese digital cameras from 20 years ago and of course will use CMOS sensors which is the norm for modern camera devices. If you have an old digital camera might be worth seeing what they sell for on ebay using the completed auction option. Some models are more desirable than others.

Rolling shutter effect is like this which doesn't effect CCD as it has a global shutter. Also CMOS can suffer more from micro-blur or whatever its caused which is a softening of detail especially on foreground objects which has the same cause as the rolling shutter effect but is more difficult to spot and depended on shutter speed used and how good the optical stabilisation of the camera is.

Just to be fair CCD can suffer from a blooming effect but while it reduces the accuracy of the image it at least is visually quite a nice effect, i.e. softening the outline of the sun.
