How Do You Beat Hay Fever?

Ask a Question

I've always taken hay fever tablets to reduce my symptoms but are there any other ways to reduce all the sneezing and watery eyes?

What do you guys use as a natural remedy?

- Tea bags are suppose to be good for healing eyes, not sure if that would help.

- Vaseline just inside your nostrils can help stop the pollen from affecting your nose and less likely to inhale it up your nostrils.

- Making sure you change your bedding regularly, especially if you have your window open (You could always cover your bed with a blanket or towel, especially your pillows in the day if you don't want to keep stripping your bed)

- Shower before bed to wash away any allergens, to stop it transferring to your bedding and irritating you as you rest.

- Salt water sprays designed for your nostrils can help clear your nose.

- Don't hang your washing outside, you can end up wearing lots of allergens that blow around in the air when your clothes are drying.

- Some people have outdoor clothes and indoor clothes to minimise the risk.

- Some people believe local honey can help but you'd need to be eating a fair amount regularly, from the local area and before the summer for your body to get used to it - but I don't like honey and it is a huge amount of sugar, so I haven't tried this and don't wish to. Not sure if it is a myth or not.

They are just a few things I can think of of the top of my head. I have to have prescription antihistamines all year round. So I've tried a fair few things! 😂

DeBunny might try the easiest options here being the vaseline and showers before bed. Thanks 👍🏽

I have heard that vaseline inside the nostrils does actually work from people i know so that one’s probably worth a go

These days GPs have a tendency to prescribe the cheapest remedy available which isn't always helpful. If you have the patience it may take several GP appointments to find something that actually works for you or perhaps even requesting a referral to a specialist. Alternatively if you can afford it you could ask your pharmacist for advice and product recommendations. Wishing you better soon 🙋
