Ask a Question
I have medium brown colour hair and always dyed it black. I am thinking of going lighter. What’s the best product to use?

Leannexxx I may not have explained myself properly. My hair is a medium brown colour which is my natural colour but want to go lighter to try and blend in grey!
If you use a colour remover as above, apply to ends first for a bit, then roots. As from experience roots will lighten much more quickly. How mych it lightens will also depend how much colour build up you have already. Dont expect to drop more then 2 or 3 shade lighter. You can use a hair lightener/bleach after the colour remover to lightener further.
Tbh I would reccomend leaving it to a professional, but if you want tofo at home. Use a remover, then bleach (depending how light you want to go), then desired colour.
Glitterandgold Sorry, I am not after a colour remover but trying to lighten my hair, apologies if not explained correctly.
eyeballkerry Ah OK. I read it ad you wanted to remove the black.
If its too blend in greys then getting highlights at the hairdressers is the best way imo.
Glitterandgold I meant I always dye it black but eventually it goes back to brown and grey. That sounds like a good idea to try and get it highlighted. I need to find a very good hairdresser and get some advice, thanks.
I'm going grey/white and letting it happen.As/When/If I go all white then I'll spray some colour in.Low maintenance.I quite like grey hair ..always have..even/especially on fellas.
MelissaLee1 I have tried to do this but my hair is longer than shoulder length. I am not worried about going grey but it is going to take a long time. I may go down the highlighted route.
I would suggest that you speak to a hairdresser. If you are trying to cover greys, I suggest you let it go back to natural colour and then add in some highlights.
MrsCraig It is back to its natural colour, just didn’t want to go black again. So it is definitely a trip to a hairdresser.
