What Are the Best Ways to save Water
Ask a Question
I was wondering what are the best ways to save water
I was thinking when showering if you wet your whole body up then switch of the water then soap up and shampoo in they turn the water back on to rinse off the shampoo and soap.
Would this hell to save water
Limit your Washing Machine per week. Use the correct flush button when using the Toilet If you have the new system. Turn off the Tap when brushing your Teeth. Buy a one cup Kettle to save boiling the whole thing plus It will save your Electricity. Have a 4 min Shower. Get some free products from your Water Provider like a Shower Timer, a Shower Regulator (It fits on your Shower Hose) or a Tap Aerator.
Thankfully we don’t have water rates in Northern Ireland but at same time I don’t like wasting water. When r homes were built 11/12 years ago they put in under ground tanks to collect rain water and that’s used to flush r toilets. There is back up system when tank is empty. It also is connected to r outside taps so in hot summer with no rain we can’t use hoses cos there no back up system there. My brother lives in England and he also has what he calls squady shower, turn on water to get wet. Turn off water and get soaped up, shampoo etc and then switch shower in to finish. I also always turn off tap when brushing my teeth, think lot of water is lost that way and I’ve kettle that pours out just enough boiling water that u need at 1 time so no boiling unnecessary water. I also only use washing machine on full load and I use dishwasher cos apparently it uses much less water than washing by hand
As well as the other suggestions we also do various other things to reduce water use including;-
Saving the cold water before your shower gets hot enough to use
When wetting a sponge you only need about a spoonful of water, you don't need to run the tap for ages just a very short dribble of water will do.
Turn the tap off whilst soaping/washing your hands
Use water butts
Keep the water after cooking your veg as the plants love the nutrients in it
I plant my veg in troughs so that the water can be targeted and not run off
Don't need to shower every day that's for sure! Use washing machine less .I live alone so don't flush every time I piddle aka "If it's brown flush it down.If it's yellow let it mellow lol" When I boil a kettle I only boil what I need. When I boil veg I use the water for my balcony plants when cool.
In the old days all the family who bath in the same water & my partner who was the baby of 12 children was the last to bath!!
Why would you save water, you pay for it, and it's done nothing but rain for a 18 months, reservoirs are full
My Nan always strip washed as she said why heat up a tank full of water to go down the drain.
It would but if it was my shower when I turn back on again the water would be cold. My shower takes ages to warm up and I feel guilty with the cold going down the drain unused.
However, I am having a new bathroom soon and will ensure they install a better shower.
I fill my kettle up once and can get about 5 cups the right temperature. I don't spend more then 5 minutes in the shower unless washing my hair. I don't wash it daily only once a week cos it doesn't need washing that much. It's unhealthy to wash it daily. My oh us dreadful when having a shower he let's it run to warm up for about 5 minutes but it is warm in less then a minute. The kids are following him with that
