Blocking by Social Media
Ask a Question
I enter a lot of competitions which involves Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Instagram regularly block me and delete my posts when I tag people - even family members. I get a message I have done this for "likes" - lol.
FB block when you do repeated comments - like the ones on LD competitions - but at least the block is only for 1 hour
Instagram are the worst as the ban normally lasts for longer - up to 2 weeks
You cant event dispute or complain...
Does anyone have any idea how to deal with this other than just stopping doing comps on social media?
Thanks!
Not sure how many people are aware of this, but requiring entrants to tag people or share a post is actually against the rules on social media sites. You can read more here: www.carbon-pixel.com/blog/social-media-competition-rules-a-quick-reference-guide/
There are however plenty of social media comps that don't require you to tag anyone or share the post as a condition of entry. I would suggest looking for those.
RegularComper91 Thats useful to know but I would say a high majority require tagging (Id say 80%). I just only do ones i want to really want to win like holidays.
RegularComper91 Are these companies not aware of this or just blatantly break the rules anyway? I haven’t seen many competitions without requiring tags and sharing.
RegularComper91 WOW I did not know that about tagging people in competitions on social media. That’s very handy to know
reannsgran yes it happens so much - Instagram is the worst, ive been blocked many times and given that ive only won a couple of times ive given up now and only do the ones i really like
My mum plays egg games on FB and shares em to help others.FB nearly always remove her posts and accuse her of spamming.Doesn't really foster team spirit does it? I don't as a rule do comps on social media cos it just feels like I am doing their PR work for them.My IG account is for personal pics not someone else's products .Seldom if ever win competitions on social media in my experience anyway.I like competitions on websites and/or old fashioned postcards.
I’m not winning so I’m unfollowing my older entries. Otherwise it gets ridiculous. Just like getting through spammy emails.
I only ever use my Instagram to enter competitions. I tag people on the comp posts and have never gotten banned. I don't share the comp posts, just tag on the original post. I enter comps on FB too. I never share the posts on there either. I've never even had a warning from Instagram or fb about entering competitions. Very strange that it is happening to you.
MrsCraig It's getting worse, I've just logged in and got and it's not the first time
"We suspect automated behavior on your account

To be honest I think my Instagram is about to go in the bin.
lilyflower its soooo annoyong
just stop for about a week
the latest made me laugh. i cant unfollow accounts as apaprentyly there is a limit to the number of accounts you can unfollow in a day. so they force you to follow accounts you dont want to!!! grrr im boycotting them now
Bin is the answer!!!
Mayhem I haven't been on for about 10 days! If I tag more than 6 people or tags in one sitting I get closed down or told 'I'm looking for likes! WTF I'm following competition requirements. FB isn't much better with the scam 'congratulations you have won' but they don't see anything wrong. Comping is becoming a dangerous place.
lilyflower I got that message the other day. I've stopped entering comps on Instagram for a bit but still sharing the comps in here.
