Blood Type Test Kit You'd Recommend

Ask a Question

Saw this one on Amazon for £8ish and a reviewer explains how it works correctly.

I'm interested to know my blood type and there is a "free" way to know, donate blood. 😬 I... Don't want to do that (the infected blood scandal certainly doesn't help) so I'll just come to know my blood type via a test kit.

Ask your GP for a NHS Health Check. They should take a blood sample and ask if you can be told your blood group.

lilyflower I asked a nurse at the GP I'm registered and she told me they don't do it.

Really? Is there any need for the kits as lily said your Dr will probably already know just ask them

I was told they wouldn't tell me or test my blood type unless I was pregnant or unless there was a situation where I needed blood. They've had plenty of blood from me though especially over the last few years when they had to keep testing it for things, so I would have thought they would have known.

Because my family have quite rare blood types and I've had a lot of health issues especially recently, I decided to get a home test kit and it seemed to work well. My partner did one too, as we knew roughly what he was so could see if it was accurate and we are pretty sure it was.

We did a home kit, I think it was under £10, we had to prick ourself with the needle provided and smear it on the card provided, it then reacts or not and you can check it against the sheet provided. This was the details:

On the Give blood website, it does say they do offer a 'What's Your Blood Type event' so people can find out for free.

DeBunny Thank you for your very insightful and detailed comment I'll be ordering a kit so that might come handy.

I don't know what blood type my family members are nor did I ask them about it, but I'm more curious about myself.

Update: Did a blood type test using the Eldoncard (pushing out the blood out of the finger did get a bit messy 😅) and turns out I have B Negative blood.

What's more, it's a rare type of blood so that's pretty dang cool! 🙂

NHS GP should give you a free blood test if required.

EmmaWright762 I asked if they'd do and she told me no, but I guess if it was something real important then they would.

Then again, I did do a blood test (not a blood type test) so they already know, but won't say for some reason.

Everyone should give blood if they are able. The "scandal" does not impact the person donating at all, since you'd be giving not receiving the blood.

Once upon a time I knew what my blood type is, but have forgotten now.

Jinky67 Putting scandal in quotation marks is disrespectful to the victims that were given infected blood.

And no, people should only give if they want, not that they should as if it were some obligation. It's our blood so we are its rightful owners.

Me and my family donate blood, quite regular so we all know our blood group, you could sign up to donate blood if it’s possible for you to give blood and then you will find out your blood group. personally I would not purchase one of these kits as I would doubt how accurate they are
