Boiling the Kettle
Other
Does anyone else boil the kettle like 2 or 9 times just to make sure it’s hot
I have an instant hot tap so I have not boiled a kettle in years. Yes, I know it costs more to run but I would never give it up.
No F, once only, unless distracted so possibly then twice
Gone are the days when you would fill the kettle to the top , it would be madness to do it now with the price of electricity .
If you use a contained element instead of the old fashioned exposed , you can put just above the flat level if say you are just boiling enough water for one cup, you could not do this with the other type, it would burn it out
The kettle is one of the highest energy using items in the kitchen , so overfilling or reboiling it would cost you dearly over the year
No. Once only or twice at most if I get distracted but that’s all. Would never do it more than that.
Just put your hand near it and that'll tell ya.
I don't even need it to be absolutely hot, just warm enough.
I've had to boil twice when I've been distracted and forgot but otherwise once.
Do you find yourself doing similar things elsewhere in daily life?
No only once, but I don't use it often. Only when we have visitors.as I don't drink hot drinks
No I boil it and it stays hot for about an hour. So I can have a couple of drinks with that
We have a 2L kettle. I fill it to 1.7L. I boil it in the morning, make my husbands coffee and my tea and the rest goes into the thermos. It is then used throughout the day, either for more tea or for cooking with. I boil the kettle once a day.
Not anymore, it costs 6p to boil the kettle according to our smart meter, 9 times is nearly 60p wasted
No as I ditched my kettle years ago. I now use a Hot Kettle which only makes one cup and Its cheaper too and not wastes any electricity by filling up a regular kettle which some do.
