Boy Ends up with 50 Octopuses after Family Buys Pregnant Pet

In the News

Owning an aquarium can be very therapeutic normally, beautiful coloured fish swimming around an illuminated tank

But this family got more stress than they bargained for when they accidentally bought a pregnant octopuss

They ended up with 50 tentacled babies

That wasn't the end of it, they needed to have individual homes for each one and feeding them was not cheap, they had to spend several thousand dollars to feed them on snails, clams and crabs , besides dealing with a water leak and small fire

But it could have been worse , a giant Pacific octopus can produce more than 50,000 eggs , now they would have taken some looking after !

I think i will stick to squid , with chips of course

Octopus is a weird creature, almost alien like, bit weird to have one as a pet though lol

Amazing creatures but definitely not interested in one as a pet. I've seen a few videos showing their intelligence and dexterity and its pretty impressive.

That is a hell of a lot of octopi and they aren’t the smallest of animals. Very smart too so it’s not right to keep them in too small an enclosure

How absolutely awful. Octopus or Octopi should not be kept in captivity unless they are severely endangered. They are beautiful creatures that belong in the sea not kept for some American child's entertainment. What next? Dolphins? Manatee? For goodness sake these parents should be totally ashamed of themselves. If you want your son to enjoy watching Octopi at least have the decency to take him to an aquarium run by responsible experts and stop being so lazy.
