Do You Buy Secondhand Books?

We get books from the charity shop in my local they always end up with the latest ones

I don't read myself but my wife does, she buys all her books second hand or from Works, they have a 3 for £10 shelf for new books

Yes I would buy second hand books and I have in the past. However last year I joined the kindle gang and must say I actually read more than ever did. You get stuff your kindle days which are free bought books not like the kindle unlimited. I do have subscription for unlimited but I also cancel it a few times too and they give you offers to get you back.

Love picking up second-hand books - always on the look out in charity shops etc. Whenever looking for a specific title - first check price on Amazon as a marker and then check ebay / etc to see if available second-hand. At least you know a book will work so second-hand is less of a risk

I almost always buy my books second hand. They are a lot cheaper and i don’t feel bad if i buy it and don’t enjoy it cause i just donate it back to the charity shop.

Everyone wins cause charity gets my money, i get the book and they then get the book back again

Nothing wrong at all with second hand looked at getting a book on amazon new quoted £8 walked into local charity shop got it for 70p a book gets read and loved instead of destroyed or just sat there and you get yourself a bargain and get to read it, there's not much of a downside really.

I do buy secondhand books from eBay as long as they are described as like new/new - great savings!

I don't buy books at all, I'm not a reader. My wife on the other hand is the complete opposite and will bring back what feels like 100 books day! (Exaggerated) She tends to prefer 2nd hand ones because they smell better? One of the bedrooms we have is now a library as are the toilets the kitchen the stairs the lounge and just about everywhere else

Most of our sons books are 2nd hand. Amazon sells 2nd hand books, that's where all of his have come from. I only buy the ones that are like new, excellent or very good. Get them from the local charity shops too.

I could not tell you the last time i bought a brand new book at full price. There's a charity shop in town I visit a couple times a month. 4 books for £1 including hardbacks. Quite often there's newer books too.

I have picked up books in charity shops but we also have free cycle events and there's always loads of books to be able to swap.

Bought some a few years ago, but haven't done so since as it gets heavy to transport/ship it elsewhere.

And Amazon sure gives a lot of digital books... That's just it, it's digital so it doesn't feel like the real thing. You can't hold it, feel it, and have that new smell.

That said, I ordered a free physical Bible because of a girl I'm kind of dating and I consider myself Christian, though I've rarely been to church and never read the Bible so I'll change that.

Yes I shop around and actually 2nd hand better. Cheaper and better for the environment

I buy used books from charity shops or via donations at supermarkets etc. I will give them a sniff test as it’s horrid if it’s been a smoker’s book

It is good to see that so many people enjoy reading.Yes, I do buy second hand books from charity shops where you can find some real bargains.My best find was a book about the Normandy landings in 1944 which my father took part in.So much information for a mere .50 p. I really enjoyed reading this one which increased my knowledge of what happened to my father all those years ago.

We are very lucky as two friends are avid readers and pass all their books to us. If there’s a particular book then we go online and order it from our local library.
