Captchas - Aaaargh!!
Competitions
Ok, so after a brief comping hiatus over December, I'm starting to get back into it.
Finding I'm having huge issues with captchas. The picture ones rather than the letters/number sequences. (Click all the buses/crosswalks/shop fronts/traffic lights; that sort of thing!)
There were always a bit of a pain but something seems to have changed in that I *know* I'm getting them right and they're still refreshing. I'm having to repeat the process over and over again - not just two or three times but more than that. I rarely have the patience for that so I'm not entering a lot of competitions I'd normally want to. It's especially a pain with the big cash prizes from the radio stations where you can have your 11/7 entries.
Of course I get the point they're to prevent spammers so I'm assuming it's not as simple as finding some extensions-y thing that can do this for me. I have no idea why I'm suddenly having an issue with them when I never have before.
Apologies (contender for most boring post ever?!) but it is driving me up the wall so any suggestions on anything I could do would be very much appreciated!
Can't help I am afraid. I am the least technological person I know! However, I agree as it has happened to me a few times, the most being 3 in a row. What I have found also is that I sometimes don't have to do the captcha as the box is ticked when I submit. However, three times now it has given me a message saying something like you must complete the captcha even though it is ticked and there is no way of going back to it unless you start over again!
It can be caused by several things, the most common seems to be that the captcha has expired (too long between going on to the webpage and using the captcha).
I found if you ask for a different captcha BEFORE trying to use the first one - it eliminates that possibility.
Not sure WHY this next method MIGHT work but I have found that if I press ENTER on keyboard instead of clicking on SUBMIT on webpage I seem to have fewer problems,
You will find some other things that MIGHT help here: https://www.thebalanceeveryday.com/what-to-do-when-captchas-dont-work-897057
Thank-you - I've been trying not to leave tabs open too long and that's making something of a difference. It's been very frustrating!
SuzJ You're welcome.... it's worth knowing it's not always captchas that cause problems if you've been on a page too long - sometimes if you've spent too long typing something (or been interrupted whilst typing) the thing won't submit. My solution is to copy what I've typed then paste it into the next attempt.
Agreed, Captchas can be very annoying. I really dislike the picture variety as well. The problem is the element(s) you are meant to be selecting are not always clearly defined and open to interpretation
