Cashback Sites. a Word of Warning

Money Saving

I was just looking for a new drill from a reputable company and it was £109. I then went through a cashback site to try and get 3% and the price went up to £119! I couldn't believe it.

I decided to ignore the cashback because I'd be paying an extra £7 odd even if it had tracked.

I've found the same with car insurance in the past, so be careful out there.

I am always wary using cashback sites as I've noticed the price can sometimes go up when you buy through them. I always check the prices before using cashback sites.

I don't make much use of cashback websites anymore, the most I get is 10p~20p + £2.50 Bonus Cashback (once per month).

It used to be so much better years ago.

Yeah I've noticed this a few times, if the price goes up I don't bother buying it

Thanks for the heads up, they really are diabolical. Trying to save money and use it wisely isn't being greedy it's being sensible so they can't exactly claim they are preying on those type of people. They are themselves not only greedy, but stupid because once word gets out on social media that they play games like this to squeeze more money from people their reputation will hit rock bottom in no time.

Cashback sites can work quite well in many instances and save you money and I would say its a rare event when they cost you more. I did notice Aliexpress would have offers on their front page of their site which would not appear if you came to the site via a cashback site. However on the positive side I got broadband back along that offered £100 cashback and also there was something like £60 cashback from the cashback site and they said you couldn't have both so claimed the £100 cashback but the £60 cashback was still actually paid so it worked despite saying it wouldn't. Just to clarify there was £100 cashback from the broadband site and also cashback from the cashback site itself.

BonzoBanana Yes, it's not always the case, but it's best to check before going through a cashback site. I couldn't believe it when the cost of the drill went up by £10 which would have cost me an extra £7 overall.

Talking about broadband, I had a really good deal via the same site. I had cashback and a £120 Amazon gift card. And then the broadband provider sent us an Apple TV thingy which was a surprise, and we sold that on for an extra £70.

All I'm saying is that with some purchases, it's best to go to the retailer first to check the price before going through a cashback site
