How Do You Celebrate Your Birthday?

How do you celebrate your birthday? Do you still have large parties or once you reach a certain age do you just not bother and prefer peace and quiet at home?

I don’t like parties, much prefer a select few with good wine and food. In fact I’d rather not celebrate a birthday. You don’t need an excuse to have friends or family around.

I buy a cake. I spent my last birthday in the hospital recovering from an emergency c section whilst my son was in the neo natal unit, so I barely noticed it this year, but we don't celebrate anyway.

I aim to not be in my home town. Last year I was in Ireland (where my maternal family come from) doing the grand tour of the wild Altantic way. I was in Barcelona one year. Another year I was in London at the Tate Gallery in the daytime, got the train back as Robert Plant was playing a gig in my hometown and yes, I did meet Robert! That was one hell of birthday as I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan. I've been in Paris. As long as I'm not in my home town all is good. I usually aim to have a whole week of activities/places to go. All my birthdays up until my 30th were rubbish, so I now plan it. I like to go somewhere else, maybe the theatre, a cinema trip. When I worked in an office, I would book the whole week off.

I usually go away, somewhere hot to enjoy the sun. Always nice to get away
