Charity ,Helping the World through Donations

Ask a Question

There’s a post about hosting a free fundraiser for McMillan charity . I had been thinking about how I could help charities myself but obviously times are hard . However together we could make a huge difference. How would you feel if you had options to donate a small amount to charity when redeeming your points ? I thought that maybe a choice of donation from 10 pence up to £1 wouldn’t be too much . It could just be optional so no one has to donate.

I would love to hear your opinion as I was going to suggest it to Latest Deals . However as I’m not sure how much interest it would be to everyone I thought getting your feedback first would be helpful.

Like I said it’s just a thought and you all may hate it and Latest Deals may not have time to implement it or consider it even . There may be rules that stop them from doing it anyway. Still I really would love your opinion. Together we can change the world. !!!! 🙏

United we stand, dived we fail to achieve!

I truly believe that this is something that should be explored but as you say ultimately it would be up to LD to implement.

tumblespots that’s what I’m worried about because it would be a lot of work. We don’t know the red tape they’d have to deal with to implement it . It may be impossible to actually do. However it’s still worth hearing the opinions from members . It’s worth suggesting too because they can only say no . Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Lol

Nickyhaslam77 Absolutely, but if it went ahead it could do a lot of good.

tumblespots I know and I’m sure Latest Deals would do their best to get it set up . It’s just all the rules and regulations that stand in the way . I imagine a lot of charities don’t even get set up due to the regulations they need to follow. I know that you have to be very careful with charities setting up as some people have no morals and rip people off . It’s annoying that them people ruin it for anyone who really wants to do good. It may not be as hard as I’m anticipating because it’s not like setting up a charity . It’s just accepting donations from members of a reputable site to forward to charity . I really hope that people are positive about my idea and maybe Latest Deals can facilitate it without too much headache for themselves.

Nickyhaslam77 Well, time will tell, let's gauge the reactions first.

It’s a great idea , definitely worth suggesting. Like you said it can be optional so if anyone doesn’t feel like donating or can’t afford to they don’t feel obligated to . As money is tight these days a lot of us who usually donate to charities haven’t been able to . This’ll give us the chance to help out a little and if even half the members donated it would be a big boost to any charity

The more I think of it the more I think of all the obstacles that would stand in the way of setting it up . There are so many regulations that would have to be dealt with taking a huge amount of time . I will still make the suggestion because you never know it may just work . However I’m now thinking that maybe I will put aside a little bit of my Amazon gift voucher total and save it until Christmas. They have them events where you can donate gifts to be given to children in hospital or kids who wouldn’t have anything at all . Then I could get a few things from Amazon and donate them. It may not go towards research etc but it would change Christmas for someone.

I think it’s a good option to have! Other sites have this, with Qmee and SB you can choose to cash out with donations to charity

lornaae thank you for your positive feedback. I was hoping that it would receive positive comments. It’s so hard these days to donate to charities even though most of us want to. I just thought this would be easy way to do so . I am going to raise the idea with LD. However I don’t know how hard it would be to actually do, but it’s worth mentioning.

This is a good idea actually and something that i had never thought of before. I usually donate my time, used items and food to food banks but would probably do this as well

jms19 thanks for your comments, it’s just something that crossed my mind when I read another post about raising money for charity with coffee mornings etc . However some people just don’t have the time so I thought this would be great idea , and so far only had positive feedback.

As the maximum amount you suggest is £1 how would it work? I am not sure that LD could give us an Amazon voucher for £49. Also, I imagine there is some sort of agreement between LD and Amazon so in effect it could end up that LD would end up paying our donations. I am not sure it could work.

It is a good idea in theory but personally I would need an assurance that the full amount went to charity, and I guess from a previous post many other people would be cynical about it. I wouldn't want 10p going to charity and the other 90p paying some charity boss his 100k salary.

I guess your change the world is tongue in cheek. Hundreds of millions of pounds has gone to charity and nothing ever really changes.

Don't get me wrong I would be happy to contribute.

Lynibis that’s what I was thinking because of how we claim the vouchers . Maybe if when we redeem we have few points over then we could decide to donate out of them . That way if you haven’t got any over you couldn’t donate that time but no one has to donate anyway the way I was thinking. It’s a nice idea but like I said so many obstacles in the way that it probably won’t work. It’s still worth suggesting I suppose. Thanks for your reply . I just thought maybe the option to donate could just be there always not just when we redeem so every so often if you felt like it after having a good day you could donate a few pennies?

Nickyhaslam77 actually donating an even number of points (so a voucher in multiples of £5 or £10 could still be sent) would mean the accumulated points could be sent as vouchers for the charity. There will always be something physical (other than cash) they require, and Amazon sell everything lol.

Lynibis that’s the problem with charities because they all are set up with the best intentions in the world. However due to all the legislation and paperwork that has to be done a lot of our donations end up paying wages instead of actually getting to where it is needed and could help . I know that some people do take advantage of situations so rules have to be followed but sometimes there’s so many that it defeats the purpose in the end .

I would like to know exactly how much Macmillan spends on advertising because they seem to have an advert in nearly every programme break on TV.

Sorry, but it would be a no from me until I found out.

TheChimp that’s a very good point. I hadn’t thought of that . Hopefully they get some kind of tax write off for advertising so our donations don’t pay for them . However I wasn’t suggesting just McMillan, a choice of maybe 5 different charities. I would be very interested to find out about the cost of their advertising. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

I donate to certain charities and not to others. I donate to the charities that mean something to me, either because they have helped us in the part or the charity campaigns for something we have been personally affected by. If this was to happen with LD points, I would want to be able to pick the charity that it went too and that just isn't possible.

MrsCraig true unless they had a vote for which charities they included, like I mentioned maybe a choice of 5. In any case no one would have to donate. Also I don’t know that LD would even consider the idea as they are working so hard as it is without me trying to add any extra work to them . No matter how good the intentions are , sometimes it’s just too much to ask . I’m still interesting in your opinion though

loismlevy thanks for your positive feedback. I’m going to get some more comments hopefully and I’ll raise it with LD , but ultimately it’s their decision and I don’t know how many hoops they’ll have to jump through to set it up if interest.
