Kitty10 it's for transgender people but they have been allowing to give it to children I think a child is too young to make a decision like that

Kitty10 I'm not against transgenders just wanna say that but I do believe there should be a age when they want to transition as children like adults change their mind

Good. Should never have been allowed in the first place. We've no idea of the long term consequences of those drugs on the body. Plus children cannot give informed consent for such things

It's important to continue questioning what the NHS can/can't afford to address free of charge. This decision will negatively impact some transgender childrens' mental health but they can't give informed consent so seems like this shouldn't have been offered in the first place.

I'm not going to pretend I know the full ramifications of this move and certainly don't wish to control people's sexual identity but I just think we can't keep paying for such stuff. If people want to re-assign their gender or have plastic surgery or other cosmetic surgery I don't think it should be funded by the state. These sort of choices should be self-financed. I also don't believe in fertility treatment being funded by the state either. We have a global environmental disaster caused by over-population and the very least we can do is not pay for such fertility treatment again if people need it it should be self-financed. There are so many things we can't afford anymore and I know its going to be a shock to many people but a lot of benefits will be cut or disappear in the coming years as debts become overwhelming to prevent us defaulting on our interest payments as a country. We have to adapt to being a much poorer country.

Lynibis 🙂 I already know where I stand and about detransitioners. Life challenges will impact people differently. It is what it is.

Consumer this person's story was exceptionally sad as she was pushed into it by parents and medics, she was mutilated for as she says, being a confused kid. No one should have any procedures until 18 imo.

MelissaLee1 I was not trying to push my opinion but some people commenting didn't seem to know what it was all about so it seemed best to hear from someone with first-hand experience. Until I listened to that I was sort of, let them do as they like, but now.....well this speech broke my heart because her life has literally been ruined.

Lynibis Not everyone wants to watch a video with a person talking about mutilation - there are many exceptionally sad stories about. As I said, I already know where I stand; this comes from a place of being adequately informed already...

Consumer again, you are being unpleasant to me for my perfectly sympathetic and helpful comments. One poster did not understand the subject so the video was to explain. For someone who doesn't even know me I am quite upset by your unpleasant comments toward me, and, it seems, only to me.

Lynibis I have to point this out to you - the video wasn't just to explain. You also used this to direct me (and a few specific others - as above) to listen to a person talking about mutilation in their childhood - your words "absolutely imperative you all listen to this then decide where you stand". You added my handle underneath that video specifically! I thought it was incredibly unpleasant. Everyone is valid but it seems to me like you're playing the victim. Plenty of people here are sympathetic and helpful but I prefer not being told by a complete stranger what I need to do/watch (especially as it relates to the video you posted) to decide where I stand on a topic.

Consumer I agree with hindsight it was a wrong choice of words but that aside it would mean everyone who posts a link or video is wrong to do so. I have chatted for about 7 years on here, knowing it is a safe place unlike the trolling that goes on in other social media. But you have succeeded in upsetting me very much. I don't know if you live alone, but I do and I am now sitting alone tearful and absolutely gutted that I can no longer chat on here.

Lynibis As I've said before - everyone is valid. What you choose to do is your decision. As you very pointedly share that I have upset you very much - your 'wrong choice of words' have also caused upset. Unless directed to me, I had already decided not to respond to any of your comments/topics in future because of this recent unpleasant exchange. Hopefully, that makes you feel better.

Leannexxx thank you honey. You are a very understanding soul. I get carried away sometimes because when you live alone you have no one to 'get it off your chest' with and I feel very strongly about world issues, especially this one. Maybe I will write a book lol.

Good. Yes there are some that are genuinely trans but under 16 are not mature enough to make a decision like that. Puberty is a horrible time and they need to get through it first

Good I totally agree with this, some parents are pushing this on the children for their own agenda, yes there is probably genuine cases however children have no idea what they want to be regarding gender, as a child I wanted to be an astronaut, I became a welder lol

I think it is such a major decision for a teen to make even if they were feeling like they wanted it. Probably better to make sure they are fully wanting to take these things.

I know it’s difficult to understand (me included) when someone thinks they’re in the wrong body but I believe once they are 18 the decision should be their responsibility.

Honestly I was sickened by the news, there is so much hate right now for trans people and it is not ok. To be trapped in the wrong body that matches your brain must be horrific! And now they are stopping puberty blockers, which could make trans youth, commit suicide because it is unbearable for them to live. 🏳️‍⚧️

HappyComperZoe there is hate in this world not just towards trans people fact is kids change their minds like adults I know people who live there life's a woman and changed back to a man why because they wasn't happy i said by what i stand by what I said children can't have sex till the age of 16 smoke or drink till 18 and yet we are giving children as young as 8 puberty blockers its wrong they haven't even lived at this age

Leannexxx In your opinion. No one said there isn’t other hate, this post is about trans people. There are more trans people who are happy about transitioning than de transitioning, it’s just the detransitions get more news coverage. And they don’t just give out these drugs, there is a massive process. This is my opinion.

HappyComperZoe yes just my opinion and I know there is a process before they give them out and I believe they should be happy in their own body but I still think that a child is too young to make that decision for someone that they choose for the rest of their life

Young people (aged 16 or 17) are presumed to have sufficient capacity to decide on their own medical treatment, unless there's significant evidence to suggest otherwise. Not every young youth is as immature as the rest, especially growing up being trans.

Children under the age of 16 could only consent to their own treatment if they were believed to have enough intelligence, competence and understanding to fully appreciate what's involved in their treatment. Known as being Gillick competent. Otherwise, someone with parental responsibility can consent for them.

Totally agree this should never have happened in the first place. At such a young age you don't know what you want or who you are from one day to the next !. This money and time should be used on people who are waiting a lifetime to get treatment for genuine MEDICAL problems

This is a medical and mental problem. They have to live as the gender they want to be and still go through a lot of counselling too. I have sadly known two people who have taken their own lives as they thought no one was listening and/or understood what they are going through

This one is a personal choice and one size doesn’t fit all.

I wish anyone going through this all the luck and support. Xxxx

I don't think kids should have them . Being a teenager is hard, so many emotions, hormones and lots of them experiment. It can be hard to understand they're emotions probably.

Children age at different rates regardless of their actual age. With a good GP and the relevant psychological help. I would rather allow it than read about the suicides because the correct help wasn’t available

suevernon1968 it's not that the help isn't available at all it's just that the drugs will not be given to kids not till they are of age and they could go private even tho it's not cheap like I said kids change there mind daily as any adult I don't think I child can make that choice

Leannexxx it depends on the person individually who is classed as a child. Personally I know someone who is classed legally as a child but been living as a male for over 5 years. I find individual cases like this very frustrating. The initial appointment with a private appointment was £300. I think everyone has struggles in their own personal lives but as this is reasonably new to many people there will be differences of opinions x
