Christmas Tree Tossing Mum Loses £650,000 Spinal Injury Claim

In the News

No, this wasn't the Scottish Highland Games tossing the caber event , but a christmas tree tossing event in Ireland

Unfortunately this woman was making a claim for a spinal injury at the time worth £650,000

She said she was left with a ‘‘disabling’’ condition following the accident where the vehicle she was in was hit from behind in February 2017

And was suing , quote '' RSA Insurance on the basis that she could not work for over five years, play with her kids or carry out basic chores due to her constant back and neck pain''

But the Irish courts 'threw' out her claim when they saw a picture of her tossing the christmas tree despite her alleged spinal injury

Now instead of all her christmases coming at once , i doubt she will even be putting up a tree this year , she might be 'tossing' it in the rubbish though

Too many unscrupulous people make false claims. That’s why all our insurances have gone up because companies need to fight cases like this in the court. I hope she had to pay all legal fees.

Wow finally a cheat gets found out. How often do you see the ones who still win becuase their lawyers argue they only ran the marathon to try to get over the injury but were mistaken; they jumpoed out the plane because they thought it would be healing; they travelled around the world because they were didnt want to be defeated by the debilitating injury. Great news she lost

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if only those who needed to claim actually put a claim in. Everyone is out for themselves/a quick buck these days - a shocking indictment on society today.

It reminds me of some tv programmes I’ve watched about false claims. Makes me laugh when they get caught out because they are limping on the wrong leg that was declared injured.

They need to re-examine any of her previous claims if she had any and give her a criminal conviction even if she doesn't serve any custodial sentence. Everyone needs to know she is completely dishonest for all future dealings with her. Grabska is a fitting name for this woman. They should be claiming back the disabled benefits she was paid too. The insurance company should be suing her for their costs as well. Motor insurance has increased so much recently and I'm sure false claims like this are part of it.

BonzoBanana I missed the name B, well spotted

I believe there is a data base for claim cheats and when they make further claims a red flag comes up for the insurance companies automatically

Also they might be refused insurance because of this or alternatively asked to pay a very high premuim

telmel It's great to know they are monitoring claim cheats but how would they know much of the time. This woman was caught out by a mistake she made that showed her true health but many will be more careful in what they do. I'm sort of thinking no such claims should be honoured unless there is proof. Anyone can say they have a bad back but some will have evidence in x-rays etc that show their back is damaged. I sort of feel perhaps we should only allow claims where there is such evidence. Of course this will prevent those with genuine back conditions that don't show on x-rays from claiming but ultimately if you are getting lets say 50 false claims for every 1 claim and these costs are being passed on to all of us then maybe that would be fairer overall.

BonzoBanana I have seen documentaries where the insurance companies hire private investigators to follow the claimants , especially if the claim is for a large amount , some claims can take more than 5 years , so they hope within that time they can catch out the false claims by taking photos and video to support a court action

telmel That makes sense but that also adds huge costs and you wonder for how many claims they can do this for, I'm guessing the most suspicious claims only. Honest citizens forced to pay for these costs when really the costs should be extracted from the people that are proven to be doing criminal claims.

I was expecting this being American lol, imagine putting a claim for that amount and then going out tossing, born stupid is an understatement

martinlufc5637 She might have thought it is ok to "act" normal now. A silly and dishonest woman who no doubt made a fortune in obtaining money by deception.

Just takes you to be careful, you never know who's watching you or where. I'm sure trust will be an issue now on top of Christmas trees.
