Cold Shower Method Has some Incredible Health Benefits, Would You Try It ?
Ask a Question
Have you ever tried having a shower that is icy cold ?
According to this article the 'James Bond ' method of showering has plenty of health benefits
Some benefits are to our skin , burning fat and helping to combat depression.
It also tightens the pores and prevents dirt from seeping in, hair follicles flatten and grip the scalp to generate shiny and healthy hair
This all sounds great, but i dont relish waking up on an icy february morning and soaking myself with sub zero cold water
Could you do it ?

Helps to combat depression? I think getting 'colder that cold' would depress me not cheer me up!
Although the Romans, and possibly the Greeks too used to the cold water method so perhaps there is something in it after all? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frigidarium
tumblespots And lots of people do swims in the winter now, they say it is very revitalising T, but i am not sure i would want to try it
No cold showers but I used to do outdoor swimming .I have fallen out of practice this last year.Planning to start up again once this cold spell is over and gain purpose and fortitude for the rest of the year.
MelissaLee1 I swam the Dee mile once organised by my school during the autumn
Everyone smeared themselves in wax to keep themselves warmer, for some reason i decided to use deep heat or the equivalent on the nether regions
Two songs come to mind 'burning ring of fire' and 'great balls of fire'
Needless to say that was 'my first , my last , my everything ' as Barry White sang
MelissaLee1 You could say that M , i could have given Duncan Goodhew a run or swim for his money lol
I can imagine the combat depression bit is when you finish the icy cold shower because I know I would be depressed for sure experiencing a icy cold shower. How cold does it have to be to get some benefits and burn some fat. If you force your body to be colder then surely the body would burn fat to get you back up to temperature. It's like a lot of things that we experienced in nature 1000s of years ago and which we evolved to accept and now live pampered lives in comparison which can mean reduced health. Less regular meals with occasional periods of no food for a few days can be hugely beneficial to health and fight cancer as the body consumes damaged cells from within to compensate for lack of food. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if getting really cold occasionally doesn't have huge health benefits.
BonzoBanana I often wonder about those cold plunge pools in saunas etc, going from ice cold to hot , that is also supposed to be beneficial, but not on my wish list
telmel That doesn't sound as natural as I wouldn't of thought that would happen in nature as much but you never know it could be beneficial but normally when you go from cold to heat that is damaging to materials.
As I have a skin condition I am not suppose to have hot showers in the first place but I do turn it down at the end to cool me down.
Hate cold showers. can sort of put up with it when it’s hot out, but I like a hot, steamy shower
No chance. I hate being cold. I would feel really down. No warm for me. I would put the temperature down a little if I was really hot. If I went cold water swimming I would probably need a ambulance after 5 seconds
Me and my older son do ice bath dunks every month, fill wheelie bin(an unused one) with cold water and ice and hey ho, can't say it really benefits anything to be honest
I have a replacement shower still sitting in its box as last one broken. Haven’t got round to getting a plumber yet. I do have baths though, I keep clean .
Too cold for me but I do cold exposure instead - relaxing into colder environments. Great for mindfulness and mental relaxation
