Many Comps Now Conditional on Buying Their Products
Other
Have you noticed this? I have had 3 in as many days which i have deleted as i am certainly not going to buy to enter, especially if it is something i do not need or want.
Their prerogative i suppose, and it may increase their sales, but tbh i think my comping days will soon be over. I spend far too much time on them as it is.
This is the latest one received this morning:
One that really confused me recently was to win a book, but you had to pre order the self same book to enter.
Plus the end date was after the book release, so not like you could cancel your pre order if you won.
blacklabrador I have seen this before and been equally confused. If you have to buy the book why would you then enter the comp. One could argue you could give one as a gift but no guarantee it would be to their taste.
I never enter the competitions where you have to buy something, not unless it is something that I buy already, which they rarely are. I only enter the free ones.
MrsCraig yes I think most of us don't, especially us LD members. I have have not often come across them until recently in my emails. If it meant, for example, buying an item I regularly use, I would probably do so. But I am certainly not buying theatre tickets on the off chance of winning theatre vouchers
I enter competitions to win things that l need or want, if l win a product that I've never used before and like it l will only then start buying it.
Pinkspirit I must admit I enter comps that I would like to win but also those that would make nice gifts for family, thereby saving me money if lucky enough to win.
I only entered one pay competition a year or two ago, it was to win a brand new Bentley , £1 per ticket
It was worth a punt as probably better odds than the lottery, needless to say i didn't win
I have received one of these this afternoon -
WIN your holiday back!
Exclusive email competition: book your holiday before Sunday 28th April to be entered into a prize draw, with one lucky guest winning the cost of their holiday back to the value of £1,500.
Comps like this aren't really comps and frustrate compers.
I think that companies are struggling at the moment but in running comps like this they can alienate people because even though we are compers, we are also all consumers, and can judge who we buy from and we would also bear in mind the companies comping position! There are a great many compers out there and if I was a company I wouldn't risk upsetting and potentially alienating them.
tumblespots received that email a little while ago. It also makes it difficult when posting comps. There was one recently on here where you won a few hundred towards a holiday (which wouldn't cover the cost of a holiday) so you would have to spend loads after winning, just as bad as before really.
LynibisFinding good comps is getting more and more difficult these days and adding stipulations about buying something in order to enter is sadly becoming 'more normal'. It's a sad day
tumblespots I don't like being cynical or distrustful, but how do the general public know if those donations actually get donated
Have you also noted the fact that many companies will only give you a discount if you refer someone... Another retrograde step for those who post vouchers!
