Council Plan to Chop down Apple Trees because the Dropping Fruit is a Hazard
In the News
Just when we need more trees to combat global warming this idiotic council wants to cut down more than thirty apple trees because it could cause people to trip over the falling fruit, WHAT !
Which planet are these people from ?
Apples and other fruit have been growing wild for thousands of years and it has never been a problem before, why now ?
This world is going PC mad
What next, cut down all trees that drop leaves in case we slip on them ?
telmel Last I heard he was holed up below ground someplace trying to stop the Highspeed Railway development.
Where do the council get these nit wits it’s hard to believe anyone with the brains to get a decent job could be so stupid to think this is a good idea
oml what even, why not just pick them before they fall then if theyre so worried, we need the fruits more so now and the trees.
This is "Political Correctness" because they're chopping down a tree? It doesn't work like that.
The reasoning is stupid, but if it's part of their property then they have the right to. There's actual trees that need to be brought down because they're a danger to people (partially broken trees), yet those aren't a concern.
Kind of like this:
I came upon this a while ago and whilst I think it was written by an American the sentiments still resonate. Cutting down a fruit tree is ridiculous! As a child from one of these era's - I think that these days the world has actually gone mad!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a van - loose - was always great fun.
We drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........¬WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents
We played with worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out any eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Local teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.¬ Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility,¬ and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS¬!
Surely one of the minor reductions in global warming is having more trees and ideally fruit trees that also provide a food supply. Trees grow by absorbing the carbon in the air (carbon dioxide) so the more trees the more carbon is taken from the atmosphere and the less global warming.
In the future there are going to be far less successful crop yields around the world as we get more extreme weather so it also pays to move the UK to be self-sufficient in food as a priority because we won't be able to rely on imported food so much in the future. Might as well plan ahead and understand what 10, 20, 30 years in the future are likely to be like.
So we need to be planting as many trees as possible as well as growing more food of all types. We need to be moving from decorative gardens to productive gardens.
I always see it as a bit of a waste that every tree councils plant are not a fruit or nut trees. I enjoy collecting the walnuts and apples that grow near my home. They taste so much better for free.
