Is Covid a Thing of the Past?

Ask a Question

It’s that time of year when sickness is on the rise. Loads of people I know have said they’ve got the flu, not covid as they’ve done covid tests and they are negative. When I think about it, I haven’t heard of anyone getting covid in a long time now…

Do you think covid is a thing of the past, or the tests aren’t detecting it anymore??

It's still around. Places like Tenerife is rife atm. I think people have stopped caring now to be honest. I think people are over saturated by it and done with it

heatherduthie I noticed this a few weeks ago in London a few weeks ago. I don't blame them if they have vulnerable people around them or are vulnerable they need a life to

Jerseydrew me neither they are quite right wearing them to protect themselves. Ive had it twice and both times it was horrific but im afraid its something we will all have to live with

Jerseydrew bring empathetic to summat that is nothing? My mam is 80 with many health problems yet she wasn't fooled. Some truth HAS come out on the mainstream but has it registered with folk? No.When folk find out of they've been told unbelievable lies I doubt very much that we'll get apologies.I was telling folk four years ago but they were too crazy to comprehend. When you personally have been physically attacked by a crazed person then empathy does not come into the scheme of things. You might be awake but you've hell of a long way to go. Perhaps you haven't found the right rabbit holes yet.

Yes. I can’t believe people are still actually doing the tests and that tbh

thepaxman I wish more people did and they tried to protect others, it can be so hard for people to live their normal life after Covid especially if they already have even the slightest breathing issues, yet some people don't seem to want to protect others. If they know they have it, please try and stay away from others or at least wear a mask. 😞

Viruses don't go away. So covid will always be with us, but people have learned to accept it in the same way as other respiratory illnesses.

Still around but we have learned to live with it like many other illnesses and diseases. I'm sure it will change and mutate all the time just like the common cold but's, no longer causes the concern and problems for most people like it did .

Most of the people at our work and even relatives miles away have recently been wiped out with Covid. I had it 3 weeks ago and I'm still struggling with breathing (I have asthma too) so it hits me hard! Making it impossible to do daily tasks.

So it is still around and apparently still mutating and there are lots more variants coming to light.

I'm so glad you've not had it recently and hope it stays that way for you.

I've seen an increase in mask wearing and this 😨

People have started catching a new Covid variant that could soon take off and become the dominant type, according to scientists.

Identified in Germany, in June, cases of the XEC variant have since emerged in the UK, US, Denmark and several other countries, say users on X, external formerly known as Twitter.

It has some new mutations that might help it spread this autumn, although vaccines should still help prevent severe cases, experts say.

For those more likely to become seriously ill from Covid, the NHS offers a free booster shot.

The vaccines have been updated to better match recent variants, although not XEC, which has emerged from earlier Omicron subvariants.

Prof Francois Balloux, Director of the Genetics Institute at University College London, told BBC News that although XEC has a "slight transmission advantage" over other recent Covid variants, vaccines should still offer good protection.

He says it is possible XEC will become the dominant subvariant over the winter though.

Unfortunately it is still around. I see people wearing masks and not sure it is because they have it. I believe you should stay indoors if you have flu or Covid to stop either spreading. People seem to forget how bad it was and have returned to their unhealthy and disgusting hygiene habits.

It’s definitely still around!!.. I see people wear face masks and that’s good cause they are protecting themselves if they have a weaker immune system no harm in doing so

With the damn winter ❄️ weather now fast approaching I’d even wear a mask just to cover my face from the freezing cold 🥶

Yeah that’s good with scarves 🧣 they are long enough for the neck and covering the face lol 😝

I wear a thin one at home to keep warm too even though I’m wearing 3 thin layers and a hoodie jacket

lots of it around. Its still causing issues in hospitals etc. Actually got my covid jab yesterday along with my flu jab. We can also still get tested although current advice is not to bother at the moment. We have had several people in the office working from home over the last few weeks when they have had it.
