Do You Have Coworkers That Seem Lazy?

Ask a Question

They sometimes ask me to do things when they are completely capable! I understand teamwork when everyone is busy but this occurs when I am already very busy and they are not as much. Makes me wonder. Also wanders off a lot. I have worked other places too and come across someone only doing the bare minimum required that day. Eg only urgent/current work and chatted the rest of the time!!

A lot of my co workers don’t seem lazy, they are lazy. Their agenda is to come to work to do as little as possible. It’s frustrating but i just get on with what i can do.

Yes, I once worked in retail and one lass I used to work with claimed she was worker of the year when all she did was very slowly serve on the till and tell everyone about her ****** and her sex life. I repeatedly told management to have words with her as this is unprofessional otherwise I would tell the area manager when she was next in on one of my shifts and see what they have to say about it.

JLouM she was. We were both on a work trail. She got told during work trial that she deffo had the job but not to mention anything to me as they weren't sure whether or not to take me on. She kept ringing in sick saying she was having seizures only to get a provisional license 2 and a half months after her last fit. I asked how she got through getting a provisional as you have to be seizure free a year before doctors will sign your provisional form. She then said that she had been seizure free since before she started the job. The manager chimed in and said you've phoned and claimed you've had 7 seizures since starting here 8 months ago so you've either lied to get out of work or not declared the seizures to your doctor or to DVLA and if you've not been declaring the seizures on a form like that you could possibly get done for fraud.

I have worked with excessively lazy people all my life, l have worked hard and gone above and beyond to help people (as l am a people pleaser) it's not got me anywhere in life as l have and still to this day get taken for granted and walked over, l enjoy being busy /occupied and know l work at at better rate than anyone l know, some people are just slow/lazy and seem to think it's ok.

Pinkspirit Yes it’s easy to get taken for granted when you are the one just doing it all and getting on with it.

JLouM one place l worked l was told to follow through any task l did, l would make a spread for a meeting and wash and dry up and put away all items after the meeting, my twenty years younger colleague would take her time setting up, so as not to do any other work, go to lunch but thought it was below her to wash, dry and tidy up after....

I did in the past - I was even told that I was too efficient!!! Safe to say that I took my efficiency elsewhere 😁

It’s the eternal struggle of people who work in team settings - you have the strongest and the weakest - for your own sanity, you have to accept it, or find another job that utilises your skill sets more effectively (difficult for mangers to get the balance right - and management are often guilty of laziness too!)

Haha yes. Sadly some of the lazy ones are the ones that get promoted while the workers get held back

Sadly I think we have all worked with people who are lazy. I've worked in plenty of jobs where others in my department were lazy. I worked in a department where there were 3 of us and I did more work than the other 2 combined.

My almost 60 year old sister K. who has worked for the Co-op since she was 16 ,she's seen her fair share of lazy people, she suffers Rheumatoid Arthritis & just gets on with her job while others around her do half the work !

One of our other sisters,R, just 57 worked in the Salad Bar at Morrisons, Sheffield, she used to make up the Pasta Salads,Pizzas, all the different Mixes & put them out while her so called friend who used to make the sandwiches made that job last from 6am-1pn then go home!!

No wonder my lovely sis skipped ship after 17 years & now works at local hospital in Catering.

Some people have never had a job and wouldn't know what it's like when it's ###### down outside and have to work in it day after day

This may get worse in the coming years as more workers ascribe to the 'Lying Flat' movement. Which, 'means doing the bare minimum to get by, and striving for nothing more than what is absolutely essential for one’s survival. It is a translation of the Chinese phrase tang ping, which is a social movement and lifestyle that rejects professional and societal expectations' (scmp.com/).

There is some merit to this viewpoint if you are overworked, badly treated and/or poorly paid by your employer. Companies are often quick to lay off staff, even when they are still making healthy profits. For example, over the last few years lots of tech sector jobs have been lost around the world - more than 262,000 employees in 2023 alone. Look at the way Elon Musk treated staff while making mass redundancies at Twitter. Why put yourself out for a company like this.

ACR Interesting about Chinese. I agree when employers treat staff badly and fast turn over but I was referring to decent employers that are fair when the worker isn’t being fair. I do know it’s much harder to find work/jobs these days due to a number of factors.

I think we have all probably had lazy co workers, I certainly have over the years, could tell plenty of stories. I also know a few people even now who just don't want a job, too lazy to work.
