Are You a 'Crafty' Person? I'm Useless How Are You?
Other
I have a lovely friend who is really into arts and crafts. She can turn her hand to practically anything. She knows how passionate i am about history and she did this t-shirt for me and delivered it today so I can wear it tomorrow at a history talk I am giving. Yes, it's about the Vikings
The mug is William Marshall, the greatest knight and the coaster is Uhtred from the last kingdom. I have seen a great slogan for another vikings t- shirt so may have to commission her to do it for me:
Too many idiots, not enough axes
MelissaLee1 I recently did lol but doubt I will take up crafting, too much history to learn before I kick the bucket!
MelissaLee1 Crafting doesn't need to be monetised, you should make because you enjoy it first and foremost
I'm hopeless I have good ideas of how i want it to look never ends up that way and goes in the bin
I was told as a young lad if you don't ask you don't get so I always ask and saved a small fortune over the years
No, I'm rubbish at it but luckily I have a very good friend who is brilliant, she even hems her own old pieces of carpet to make door mats! I have several beautiful things she has made and am currently waiting for the colder weather to wear a shawl/poncho she made me.
I love the slogan you have chosen for your next shirt I'd wear it
tumblespots ha ha, I am starting with King Alfred and working through the monarchs, it would be great to have a tee for each one but that might be going a tad too far.
I am getting new carpet soon and had that very thought of making rugs from the old as new bits that are hidden under furniture don't get worn. Wouldn't know how to start though.
Lynibis I'm sure if I tried it myself it would look as though someone had chewed the edges! I love the idea of craft and crafting but it's all in my mind... my fingers aren't connected to my creative side, they have a mind of their own and everything I try turns to cr*p.
Good luck for tonight
Jerseydrew and if you enjoy it that's the main thing. I imagine there are loads of tutorials on YouTube we could benefit from, but too many other things on the go at the moment.
Some people just are good like that but I always think, as long as i'm enjoying myself it doesn't matter what my crafty things turn out like. Plus practice makes perfect
I have always liked to think that i'm crafty and can give anything ago and I do/did but more often than not never turns out quite how I had pictured it .
I'm a crafter and switch between a lot of different bits and bobs. I also enjoy drawing and painting watercolour illustrations.
If you didn't already know, we have an Arts and Crafts on a Budget Group over on Facebook (where you'll see me around a lot ) ldeals.uk/crafts
I prat a lot and am happy to have a go at lots of crafts but I'd really like to be able to sketch and paint with skill but it's not my forte unhappily.
Auntielettie me neither, my talents, such as they are, are more cerebral, reading, writing and studying history.
Love a bit of crafting, but usually only in the winter, when it's dark early so I can't get over my allotment, Christmas crafting is my thing, I make wreaths and table decs with my local hedgerow vegetation, the sewing machine also comes out in the winter
slightfoot they are good enough to sell, well done, bet they look lovely on the Christmas table.
Lynibis thankyou, I usually just give to friends and family but was thinking about selling some this year, just not sure what to price them at, they cost £2.50 each to make
Best thing I ever made was two padded quilts for my daughter’s bedroom after being quoted hundred of £ from John Lewis and Laura Ashley.
I used to do a lot of craft projects when I was younger. I got into knitting when I was pregnant. Then I really got into quilling for a few years.
eyeballkerry I have mentioned there is a family baby on the way so I brought out the knitting needles but found it really difficult to follow patterns I did with ease when younger. I know hospitals are pleased to receive baby hats for their premature units if you feel like knitting again.
I appreciate other peoples talents and the enjoyment they receive from it but I am a lost cause.
loismlevy I know the feeling and you know what they say, practice makes perfect. If I find a tatty looking ornament I like to paint it and sprinkle glitter on while paint still wet. I have painted the brickwork around part of my fairy garden and 'glittered' it. Looks really pretty when the sun catches it.
I know what your saying about the last slogan. I do lots of art and crafts mainly painting at the moment I'm trying to do more and more. It helps with my mental health. That's the important thing if it helps you or you enjoy it then do whatever art or craft you want to do.
Good luck with the talk and no I am not crafty, my skill level is I can saw on a button if needed. I haven't got the patience
beccatavender I think with all things, including craft, there are levels of experience. I love 'tarting things up' like fringing round a lampshade, glittering my fairies etc but not crafty enough.
Talk went well thank you, they insisted on paying me and it did boost my confidence that they thought I was good enough to pay lol!
Lynibis My husband belongs to the local archaeology group and I have gone along to a few of their and the civic society talks and they have always been fascinating, people's passion and knowledge always comes across.
beccatavender strangely I had dreams of becoming an archaeologist even as a child, it is obviously where my passion for history began to develop. My first few talks I relied heavily on notes, but I am now confident enough to speak without them and make eye contact with my audience while walking around.
Lynibis I always admire people who can speak in public, it's not something I would willingly do
Yes I love to make different things I made pelmet for my house I make a lot of Christmas items for my family ,I always made my kids Halloween Costumes when they were little made a few cushions from friends clothes who have passed away for there loved ones and loads of other things wine glass charms, keyring bereavement Christmas baubles I love making things
I have precisely zero artistic talent. So much so, that when my then 2yo child asked me to draw animals for her she'd laugh her head off at how bad they were. She could draw better than me
