Cruel to Own a Pug
Other
Peta have said it's cruel to own pugs. According to them we should not only oenpugs but shouldn't own anything related to pugs. This is due to the breathing issues pugs have.
What do you think?
If I had a dog it wouldn't be a pug.Cute as they are I bet they really struggle with their breathing.
Pugs have never appealed to me. I know people who absolutely adore them and think they are seriously cute but they just aren't for me.
Well if we don't own them what happens to them? Just a question because people would be kicking off saying their is no pugs anymore and probably try to bring them back it's madness any animal can have issues doesn't mean we don't love them any less
Jerseydrew I used to look after a pug for a friend occasionally , ozzie, he was a lovely dog , so friendly and loyal
Yes, they have breathing problems, he used to snore like a trooper at night
And they can suffer from flatulence , but i am not sure if that is related to the breed or not though ?
PETA? I'm surprised people still remember them. Bunch of useless .
I guess they had to come up with a way to be relevant again.
Well i think the issue is that fashion dogs are bred to have certain traits which cause them to have a less nice life. I wouldn’t expect anyone to give up their dog but it would be good if people were more aware of the breeding practices and moved more towards “natural” dogs
I adore french bull dogs, but have always said I wouldn't want to pay a breeder for one (well I wouldn't with most animals if I'm honest) Of course I'd consider a rescue/rehome though, it isn't their fault they were born or the fact they are now in need a new home etc. You pay an extortionate price for an animal that is likely to have a lot of breathing issues. It isn't just the thousands of pounds they might cost us, it is what they might have to go through and the breeding them to live a life in pain or discomfort. We, humans, created a lot of animals for their aesthetic, it isn't much the animals have done themselves. Humans bred the smaller shorter type dogs mixing the genes with other stunted animals, creating new breeds as we know them today. Many with common health problems and even behaviour issues such as those with shorter tails or lacking in ears, it is even harder for them to interact and 'talk' to each other, so there are mixed signals.
It is such a shame. I've also always adored Scottish fold cats, but it wasn't until recently I learnt that it was a defect that can be super painful but they now breed them as their own breed, which is horrendous if you think about it.
Short faced and lop earred bunnies they've had those traits bred into them.
Most rodents also suffer with tumours which is often how they pass, they need to stop selling them in pet stores and educate themselves as well as those PROPERLY that end up going home with them.
I don't always agree with PETA, as some of the things they say can be super extreme - like banning carousel horses, because it is apparently exploiting horses! I feel they need to focus on the dangers of breeding and educating in the right areas. But again as a human we will have different thoughts on what the 'right areas' are.
Peta say a lot of things to grab the publics attention not all of it thought through or practical. If a Pug has already been born it will need somone to love and take care of it. To breed more Pugs might be considered cruel. To claim purchasing items related to Pugs as wrong is absolutely rediculous. I would love to have heard their arguments to substantiate their rediculous claims so I could tear them to shreds too lol
I wouldn't ever own any brachy type dog. It's disgusting how badly bred they are these day. It's cruel.
A lot of pedigree dogs have known inbred problems. My friend had two King Charles spaniels and both had lots of issues.
I wouldn't personally have one, my neighbour has two, they are always at the vets with breathing issues
Pedigree breeds are generally a cruel thing to do greatly increasing the chances of health issues, pugs and other flat nosed breeds of cats and dogs for breathing. Pedigree animals seem a strange choice for anyone saying they love animals.
We adopted a pug, he is the sweetest and full of character. He enjoys long walks most days or run around on the field. He has no breathing problems, yet likes food too much, so we do keep an eye on how much he eats, he helps himself to the other pooches food when he gets a chance he is all for comfort x
How would we as humans like to be bred with a built in health issue for life? I would never suggest getting rid but feel they should be allowed to die out and breeding for human whims not allowed.
XL bullies are another matter, registering them does not stop them attacking or killing. Why do people want to own large, ugly, aggressive dogs anyway? Owners saying my lovely XL wouldn't hurt a fly.....I bet the lady killed by hers this week said the same.
