Cutting out Big Expenses....
Ask a Question
What are some of the biggest expenses you've cut out of your budget, and how did you do it?
We have cut down using the car so much and been walking a cycling a lot instead.
I try not to use my car. I need it for work. It's hard I'm trying to not buy as many clothes and mend what I can.
If you can find big expenses to remove then that is brilliant but really for most people it is death of a thousand cuts with lots of little payments doing all the damage over time. Make sure you never pay interest except for a mortgage of course, remove any services you don't make use of, choose cheaper options like more basic insurance. Don't split payments into monthly amounts if there is a yearly price which is much cheaper. Choose second-hand where possible and keep items a little longer before replacing them. Remember walking and cycling not only save huge amounts of money compared to driving but they help maintain your health and might prevent future health issues. Spend a little longer finding a better deal on a product or service you have to buy. Look for additional discount codes or cashback. Maybe choose a reliable car that is less glamourous and stylish over a low quality more stylish car with high ownership costs and that is more likely to need rescue services.
My food bill! Working out what brand names I can live without and meal planning has truly saved me a lot of money. It’s work and dedication but it needed to be done because our shop was becoming ridiculous!
Unfortunately most people can't cut out big expenses but small ones and hope that they add up. There are lots of small things that we do to save money. We walk whenever possible, I buy orange sticker items whenever I can and utilise my freezer. We eat leftovers, I reuse teabags, I cut sponges in half. I buy second hand when I can and will mend clothes. We keep things for as long as we can until we replace them. We got the cheapest options on our streaming services. We use the air fryer instead of the oven as it is cheaper to run. I use the shortest cycle on the washing machine and less detergent than it says to as you don't need that much.
There are lots of other small things I do to save us money, would take too long to list them all.
I don't have a car so just watching every penny trying to find the cheapest option wherever I go and get.
The biggest expense I have cut out my life is TV. I watch all my films, news etc online now. I no longer pay a tv license and only one media system is on at a time.
I certainly don't use the car as much and our weekend camping trips have stopped, cut down on buying clothes too
