80 years since d day. I grow up in Jersey. The 2nd world war is a big here. We were occupied. We literally can't get away from it as there's bunkers and our sea wall was built but pow that the nazis brought over. It needs to be made a deal of. Its important.

It breaks my heart to think of all the people who have died in wars throughout the millennia. Some fighting, some innocent bystanders, and now in the 21st century we still have not learned to live in peace. You are right to point out the importance as it feels more real being in living memory for a few remaining people.
I despair that ordinary folk living ordinary lives cannot live in peace: murder, thieving, aggression, rudeness and all manner of hatred to our fellow humans and even our own family. So, how can we expect countries to live in peace? Our Leaders are those same people a little higher in the pecking order than most of us. We somehow allow psychopaths to lead, power crazed egotists and inept fools. There will never be peace in this world and it all starts with the common people who don't bother to raise their children in love, respect, kindness and to be a force in the world for good, not evil.
Lynibis I 100 per cent agree with you. Its a scary world we live in. Mad that a person that's not stable can be elected in power.
Yes, I do care.I am thinking of my father today as he was part of the D-Day landings at Gold Beach which he survived.He went on to Caen where the RAF were bombing the city to clear the Germans out.He also suffered the hellish fighting at the Falaise gap and after many months ended up in Northern Germany as part of the Occupation Forces.He returned to the UK in 1946 and lived to the grand old age of 101 when he was still with all his faculties.Please remember all those who fought to free the world from tyranny.
SueWard oh what an amazing person your father is to have survived that. I've lived with stories of awful things that happened during the occupation. Like I said living where I do it's everywhere as there's bunkers and all sorts where I am left over
I’m aware of it and definitely have a great deal of respect and appreciation for all the soldiers who fought for this country.

I grew up with most social events being at the Army Club. I was taken there on my very first outing to be shown off at 5 days old lol. I respect all those who believe they are fighting for what is right and just. However I have seen too many young men return with limbs missing or PTSD to condone this new military service being proposed. Having been baby sat as a little girl by men who fought in the Burma war I feel the very least people can do is show their respect.
