Death of the iPad?
In the News
I just realised I have not used my £700 iPad in over 6 months. It just doesnt compare to using a laptop.
Anyone else finding the iPad and tablets are just not preferred over laptops anymore? Will they stop selling them?
I think they are still selling well as are android tablets. They are better than laptops for some applications. I personally wouldn't buy an ipad due to poor value being a premium product but you can't knock the user experience with them. I just prefer android tablets which are a lot cheaper.
I don’t have one. I use my phone most of the time. My dad has one and he uses his a lot actually. I prefer laptop, I have one of those. I prefer keyboard as I’m a trained touch typist, but the job is almost obsolete now.
JLouM Goodpoint about your dad. My mom still uses hers and wont even give a laptop a try. Horse for courses. I suppose. Jus read an article saying iPad sales plummetting. Maybe a niche item now
JLouM I prefer a laptop for that reason I touch type. Though I prefer a computer to a laptop as I hate the mouse but prefer a laptop to a tablet
PaxAmerica they probably slowing down as most people have them and probably not replacing them unless they have to.
Jerseydrew I remember first using a mouse and it was so alien to me but I got used to it in the end. I think they all have their place really. Modern living is on the internet. We typed before it’s existence.
PaxAmerica I've not heard sales are plummeting but have heard they are reducing. I guess it depends on how you see it. I think Apple sales in general across many devices are reducing but it is a premium product and people are a bit poorer.
I prefer my tablet over a my laptop anyday, its lighter & smaller to carry, it's my laptop that has been made redundant
Pinkspirit Interesting. Do you not find it limiting though, especially if you need to write a wordsheet or do a spreadsheet?
I prefer my iPad to a laptop or chromebook. Best device I own. I find my iPhone too small.
I prefer a laptop personally but i think most people i know actually prefer ipads as they are easier to use.
I use my iPad all day every day. I occasionally use my husbands iMac but I’m always tapping the screen! Take my iPad everywhere I go.
I hate them. But it works. Tablets are great at work. You can put exercise books on them for kids to do their work if they struggle with writing. We use them to record kids talking so not everything needs to be written. Tablets are used for recording first aid and instead of writing physically in and out of places of work. Same as in hospitals as scan and trays can be sent straight away and less hanging around
I use my iPad a lot as I am away from home.I do prefer my Apple computer with the big screen which I can see more easily.
I must admit I would like a laptop even though I use my phone, tablet (kindle fire) and a main desk top pc in what I call my office, the smallest 3rd bedroom. I would use a laptop in the evenings more when watching TV but can't really justify the cost while I have those other tech items. I got the kindle because I am an avid reader and it kills two birds with one stone so to speak.
I use my Android devices regardless how many years old they are because the APK files make it usable even if the device is outdated.
However, with an Apple iPad/iPhone I don't really get that experience unless it were jailbroken.
Our iPads gets a lot of usage in our household - far more convenient to use than laptops. It depends what you need the devices for - for light entertainment, shopping and checking mail, my iPad is suff
I still definitely see good use for them - depends what you're using it for! I think particularly people into digital illustration or for those who have studying it's very useful. I got my iPad through eBay and didn't have to pay what you usually would have to. Works and looks as if it's new! So if you look around it is possible to get at an alright price.
