What Would You Do?

Other

You're about to leave work after working overtime and it's 9pm.

You lost your wallet/mobile and you have no money/no card to pay for anything or even make a phone call.

It's a very secluded area and there are no cars and no one around you for miles.

How do you get home?

If I was getting public transport home I'd explain I was stranded and hope they helped a damsel in distress! If there was no public transport or my own car i have to presume I'd cycled in so I'd bike home. Otherwise I'd go back to work & if I'd locked up I'd just let myself in and use the phone or sit tight til morning. If I hadn't locked up & the boss had gone I would probably again find shelter somewhere near work & wait for staff in the morning. If it was very cold and only a few miles home and there was no one around I'd be really scared in the dark but I'd just head home and hope the wildlife stayed away!

This is very hyperthetical. Your wallet/ mobile would be in work or how would you have got there with no money or phone? How do you normally get home? If you are about to leave work I would stay and use their phone. Please don't say it's a work place with no phone or I really won't believe you lol!

Let's say you work at a warehouse and there is no phone for use, only in the manager's office which is locked at night of course.

Let's say there is a bus stop nearby outside work a few minutes walk away.

Let's say you realise you lost your wallet/mobile before boarding the bus and the driver won't let you on. You're the only one around, there are no other cars, you're somewhere in a remote village in the Scottish highlands.

How do you get home?

jakemoss Why? Are you writing a crime novel or something? I would threaten the bus driver with losing his job for leaving a stranded person in the middle of nowhere, and telling local paper.

lynnibis Well, let's say there are no buses after 9pm.

How would you get home then?

jakemoss and anyway if you are here warehouse worker what excuse would you have for being there alone after all gone home? If you were female you would have left with other staff or asked for lift. Most colleagues would not leave someone alone in the middle of nowhere.

jakemoss you could go on forever putting obstacles in the way, but your scenario just wouldn't happen.

Working overtime, it's a large warehouse so not all employees are in the same area or even know each other. No one knows where everyone is so the rest went home. It's perfectly possible to be left behind alone.

jakemoss whatever answer anyone gives, you move the goalpost. Is there a point to this? No one works overtime totally alone in the middle of nowhere with no way to get home. You already said last bus gone, phone/wallet lost but then dropped boarding bus, you can't keep changing the scene or this is all totally pointless. Is there a point?

lynnibis If you don't know what you would do in this situation then don't comment, as simple as that.

Seems like if you were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a plane crash you would say "what's the point? This is totally pointless."

Cheers

lynnibis By the way, a similar situation occurred and was featured in the Standard news as a matter of fact:

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/mother-left-stranded-in-car-park-in-dead-of-night-after-workers-close-off-exits-a3110391.html

"Mother left 'stranded in car park' in dead of night after workers close off exits".

"With no cash or cards on her, Ms Claydon – who has a five-month-old baby girl – had no way of getting home to Broxbourne, Hertfordshire."

So yeah...these situations do happen. If you think they don't then you probably live in a cotton wool wrapped world.

jakemoss well anyone can start a thread giving a scenario that you want people to comment and give answers on but if people give a workable answer and you keep moving the goalposts they can never find a solution.

Presuming i was not injured after said plane crash i would load up with any food from wreckage and start walking, or build a bonfire, or use the radio.............oh none of those things are doable, well what would you do in both scenarios? Do you have a solution, is it a puzzle or is everything suggested wrong. As you have spat the dummy i will end my suggestions.

jakemoss so why did you not give the link in first place and ask, what would you have done in this situation? Not in Scottish highlands though.

Cry.

hahaha id hope there was a bus/train stop I could walk too and explain my situation and pray they are kind souls who let me on board!

Failing that, sleep in the office overnight 😂 if there’s toilet & kitchen facilities i think I’d survive the night 🤷🏻‍♀️

If my home was in a ten mile radius of my workplace and I wasn't working the next day then I'd probably just walk home. I enjoy hiking and don't mind walking at night. If I was working early the next day, then I would just crash at work. Food wouldn't be an issue, because if I worked in the middle of nowhere I'd keep snacks, tea bags, coffee, water, etc there.

Set off the alarm so the keyholder was called out. If no alarm break in and use phone.

Well, wouldn't mind walking even if it took a few hours. Don't like to ask strangers for a ride, it'd feel like I'd then owe a favor.

I am sure my boss would allow me a call. Also I am sure one of my colleague would give me 1.50 for the train ticket.

And if none of this was possible, I would just walk home

I'd use the public call box next to the bus stop, call the inland operator on 100, and make a reverse charge call and ask a friend to come and collect me. There's thousands of public call boxes in Scotland!
