Does Anyone Here Have A Side Hustle?
Ask a Question
Just wondering about earning a bit extra. Does anyone have a side hustle and if so what is it? What advice would you have? How well is it doing?
I do what I can if these count:
- Competitions
- Mobile games
- Surveys
- Recycling app
- Sell what I no longer need/want
- Claim freebies
- Product testing
- Cash back hunting with apps and websites.
DeBunny I do pretty much the same as you, plus receipt and shopping scanning. I’m earning between £200-300 a month which isn’t too bad.
TheChimp I am actually! Did my first return last year, that was a headache.
Luckily I started keeping a detailed spreadsheet once my earnings became regular. I’m always surprised how all these little bits soon add up
snoogans888 someone made a chat topic about Shoppix saying they got an email that they are closing? I didn’t get it and don’t think it’s true
Just earned £5 on there and Storewards too
And I’m so close to getting £20 on snap my eats too
Usually get amazon vouchers
Do you get cash via PayPal? I’ve not done that before, it’s easy?
kitty88uk only some people’s accounts have been closed on Shoppix - someone on Facebook group I’m on said theirs had been closed.
I try and cash out asap just in case the apps shut down.
I do get payouts via PayPal. I like having money in the bank plus if I do want to buy something from Amazon then I can buy vouchers from Jam Doughnut and get an extra bit of cashback too
snoogans888 yes I just saw on Facebook newsfeed! I just got £5 a few days ago!
What’s jam doughnut? Never heard of that before
How long does it take to g wet the cash in bank account?
I don’t do cash backs only once when there was an offer to buy a brand of washing up liquid and had to post receipt of proof of purchase
kitty88uk jam doughnut is an app where you can buy gift cards for loads of different brands and earn instant cash back. The only downside is you have to wait until your cash back wallet hits a certain amount before you can withdraw it.
snoogans888 I see
Sorry posted the same comment twice had problems lol
Is the cash out via PayPal instant?
kitty88uk it’s been a while since I’ve cashed out but I just checked Jam Doughnut help and it says within 24 hours
kitty88uk oh right sorry. I’m not sure if it’s instant, but I think they made some improvements to PayPal payments and it’s a lot faster than it used to be. I don’t think I waited too long.
snoogans888 I see thanks for letting me know! I always choose amazon vouchers lol so I can buy books it takes me ages to get to £5! Or foods like canned soup lol
It’s more coins on Storewards and for some reason my email and amazon accounts are not connected which they were as I recently got 1000 coins each just a few days ago!
kitty88uk someone on the Facebook group I’m on said they’ve only just realised their email and Amazon accounts are no longer connected
eBay used to be, but I don't have anything to sell these days on there.
Also, the taxman is gonna demand his cut when you make £1k or something. Another god damn fee as there weren't enough already.
PhilipMarc Yes I’ve heard that. I don’t use eBay much but as far as tax goes, does that mean anything over £1k even though you don’t meet tax threshold in main job? I don’t earn enough as it is.
JLouM community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/pt/899d8a7a-6294-ed11-97b2-00155d3ba57b
That's really demoralizing.
PhilipMarc Heaven forfend .Do you have to pay tax on Granny as well or is there a family loophole?
Not sure they count as side hustles but I do surveys, earn money from mobile games, enter competitions and sell things we no longer need. Doesn't make me rich but gives us a little extra.
I am sure I have mentioned mine before but I doubt everyone would have seen my comment. I write reviews for our local theatres on press nights for a website and I give history talks to a local Age Concern club. The former is paid in the form of two good tickets and free interval drinks, the latter I have always done for free but they insisted on paying me £40 last time. It was inside a thank you card so I didn't realise until I got home, next time I won't accept payment but I would love to do more talks for other clubs and associations.
Only like most others ,survey sites, plus academic one, and eBay selling off good/ unused items of myself and parents
SaveMeSunday I think she means ones like Prolific. These are studies run by students and you help with their research by participating in their little tests. Some are very well paid.
snoogans888 I have never heard of studies run by students. This sounds very, very interesting and being paid too.
jam45 most are by Psychology students and some can be quite interesting. It’s a very popular platform so I think there’s a waiting list. If you do get onto it you do have to be quick to get into a study!
jam45 cool. Make sure you get onto the right website as I think there’s a dodgy one called the same thing.
Just be careful guys HMRC are becoming strict on side Hustlers extra earnings since January this year. If you earn over a thousand pounds in a year they want to tax it , people who use sites such as Etsy, eBay, Vinted, deliveroo etc may find their bank details will be shared with HMRC by these sites if you earn a lot from it
Nadiaparveen I hardly make anything so not a problem but out of interest how much tax on a thousand?
I've become a dogsitter! I use Rover as well as just word of mouth, it's been a lovely lift in my income while also giving me the joy of dogs without having my own (yet!)
JLouM I regularly have one dog twice a week, he gets dropped off and collected from my flat, and I have him for 8 hours during the day. I also work from my home office so it works perfectly. Then I get ad hoc requests for walks, other sitting jobs, both at my house and theirs. Rover is great at distinguishing the types of job so you can choose what suits
I do all the apps I can, receipts, steps, games, comps, loyalty ect
But also make my own jams and chutney with home grown fruit and veg from my plot, I a have a little honesty table out front and I make up Xmas hampers with them to sell, make about £300-£400 a year from that. I also sell little plants on me table.
Also at Christmas I make wreaths and table center pieces for people with foraged foliage and candles, that £50-£100 a year
Then I have me sowing machine for the winter, I do all sorts on that, fixing stuff and making cushions for people mainly, they supply the material for the cushions and I make them, I have done cushions out of passed loved ones clothes befor
slightfoot You sound very talented!! Do you have to declare anything as a business or does what you do not really apply? (jam) I do steps app, comps but not won, I tried to sign up for shoppix but didn’t take on anyone new, what receipts do you do? Thank you
JLouM I did check with the tax man just in case, lol but it's ok untill u earn over £1500 a year, so I'm ok
JLouM all sorts, it varies abit year to year depending on me harvests, but classic strawberry jam is my best seller, red onion marmalade, rhubarb & ginger jam, beetroot chutney are also very popular. And at Christmas chillie spiced picked onions sell very very well, I like to try a new recipe every year some are great so i stick with them, if they not popular i dont bother again, i tried runner bean chutney last year that was beyond awfull, never to be repeated,I have 3 customer's who try any new recipes for me, they get there jar for free and they are very honest with their feedback, one of thems me mother and shes just brutal, lol, this year i did a clemantine and cognac marmalade, i dont grow clemantines but got 2 big crate fulls from oleo app for free so put them to good use, gave all my regulars a free jar of that and it was a hit
What are the best receipt and shopping scanning apps to use, please? Oh, and mobile games apps? How does this work?
Loz67 game wise I like mistplay app, you play games to collect points, points turn into vouchers, I enjoy playing games anyway so may as well earn as I play, I've managed to get enough points this month for £25 tesco voucher.
