Donating Clothes To Charity

Ask a Question

Thinking to declutter the house and remove clothes that I no longer wear or have shrunk lol cause I have worn them a lot 😬 but are still in very good condition

Does anyone else donate their clothes and unwanted items?

Like to do my bit and help charities raise money for a good cause!

I used to buy a lot of clothes in charity shops as well as donating them, then I moved to the country and what with covid I haven't done either for quite a while. The shops were almost on my doorstep before but it's quite a way to go to them now. I did have some large items collected a couple of years ago and they took the boxes I had ready at the same time. I think the charity shops must be struggling these days. I do find it quite therapeutic having a clear out of unwanted items though.

tumblespots Yes I used to buy clothes from charity shops too when I was a kid

I agree it’s therapeutic and you feel good not only making more space at home 🏡 but helping charities too

SaveMeSunday Yea I do the same too, I’ve donated a lot of clothes probably 5 bags when they come through the letter box!

I did have a quick look last year at some charity shops and they do have a lot of good books and nice 😊 items too!

It’s like a treasure trove lol 😝

We also donate our unwanted still wearable clothes to charity shops. My worry is that, I will walk past and see my clothes in the window and buy them back, hate getting rid of stuff.

eyeballkerry Haha 😆 your actually back your own clothes back?!! That’s crazy 😜

It is hard letting go of clothes that are still in good condition!

It’s why I takes me ages to donate clothes haha

I put them in the bags we get through letter box

I have them all ready then I go back and get my clothes out wanting to keep them! 😬😅🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes I donate but I use a service that collects from my house as it’s so much easier than dragging it all to a shop as I don’t drive.

Popped into the charity shops yesterday and got some bargain toys and a school summer dress for my daughter. So I’ll be returning the one I got from eBay!

snoogans888 Yes I donate through the bags that gets posted through letter box, I have done that maybe 3 times and donated 5 bags of clothes! Much easier as you said!

Oh that is a bargain! Yeah that’s great return the one that is more expensive! Saves you money and you feel great about buying from charity shops! 😊

We take bits to our local shop and if there’s a sign saying basically no room there are lots of shops in the nearest town.

MelissaLee1 This is absolutely shocking. Did this country accept this in exchange for money? Shame on their government for not "burning" them and leaving it to get out of control.

jam45 it's horrendous isn't it?They do recycle and resell loads. The problem I think is that people are so consumed by materialistic trends of which fashion probably heads highest.

I know it sounds dreadfully mean but I am having a drive sale next weekend with a friend. With money so tight at the moment a few pounds will be welcome.

I have become rather cynical and untrusting over the years and in the past have known people who have collected items for charity and kept best bits for themselves.

kitty88uk I was divorced in 1986 but was very young when I married. The late mother in law was always having charity sacks of clothing brought to her house to sort (I can't remember the details) but she kept all the best stuff for herself or sold it. Some of the stuff was brand new and often still in original wrapping.

My bestie is coming to my house to help with the drive sale and bringing loads of her stuff too.

Yeah I always give stuff to charity shops, no point having stuff cluttering the house if it never gets used. If you do decide to donate please take it to your local charity shop and not those bags that they push through the door. In a lot of cases the bag’s through door companies are for profit and only donate a % (it’s written on the bag how much they give)

jms19 Oh I never took a closer look at the information on the bags! Oh well they were old clothes lol but in good condition

I’ll keep that in mind and double check

Thanks for letting me know

I do donate, but must admit unless is something particularly nice, I put it into black bags and use the charity bins in my local supermarket car park rather than take it into the shop, as its more convenient. But I will definitely do another de-clutter before Christmas, of books etc. which I will take into the local hospice charity shop 🙂

I only donate clothing made of natural materials to people in Africa, via a small charity who collect, ship and deliver directly to people in need.

,Yes I donate my unwanted items to charity shops. I hate wasting things and when I have a clear out I if find items that have hardly been used. I couldn’t throw them in bin so feel good knowing someone else can get use out of them . You can get some great bargains in charity shops because we’ve all done it . We see something in the shop and we just have to have it ! I mean it’s half price and how have we lived our lives up until now without this special item. We buy it so happy with our bargain priced ”must have” item , only to wear it once (if lucky). Then it sits at back of wardrobe awaiting that special occasion when it’ll be ideal (it never comes ).I got a bit carried away with my story there . So the point being a lot of times you find items that are almost brand new (sometimes they are ,still have tags on ), where people have bought something on impulse, that never gets used .

I sell things online on fb marketplace if they are in Like New condition and barely worn. Don't ask for a lot but get a bit back. Otherwise I donate it to a local charity that helps families in need.

Salvation army..is the best bet to donate they never get much attention or are appreciated...I have worked in charity shops in the past and you are lucky if your donations get onto the shop floor.
