'Don't Plug the Firestick USB Directly into the TV' Warns Amazon User
Ask a Question
A reddit regular has given a warning for all fire stick users
He says don't plug your firestick directly into your TV
Apparently it can cause it to overheat and shorten its' life
They say to use and extender, plug this into the USB on the tv and the stick into this
I have been using my firestick for ages now and have not come across any problems, have you ?

I always used the extender bit but only because I thought that would help the wifi signal if it was further away from the TV. It's a low power device so cant see how it will be harmed plugging it directly in. It doesn't get hot or anything. Maybe it varies by model. Amazon have produced a lot of different firesticks and the chipsets they are based on has varied. Perhaps one of the models runs hot.
Personally not heard of it happening, but for sake of £1 or so maybe worth buying the extension, cheaper than a new TV if it goes wrong
Well mine is always plugged in the TV, never had any problems and on checking it, it's not warm at all
martinlufc5637 As i mentioned M mine has also been fine and to be honest i rarely check it, and as to extending the life of one i dont really know how long they are meant to to last, i usually change it when an upgraded model is available anyway
telmel yeah I always upgrade every 2 years, can't say I've ever had any issues with a firestick
We've always used an extender. But only because it didn't fit behind the TV. Good to know tho. Thank you for sharing
