Drinkers Flock to 'Britain's Cheapest Pub' Where All Pints Are under £3
In the News
I applaud this pub in the west midlands , they are managing to sell some beers for under £2.30 a pint !!
They realise the only way to keep trading is to cut their prices to bring in more custom
And the owner says they are still making a profit after paying wages and expenses
This goes to prove how much profit other establishments are actually making, despite them pleading poverty
If they were not so greedy they could all offer lower prices and entice more customers to keep them trading and prevent closure
This is just another example of rip off Britain , at least someone has some common sense

This applies to so many other sales and services as in the zoo topic on chat. It seems to me that if well heeled people continue to buy they will keep upping their prices and couldn't care less if they outprice the lower earners. If people are happy to pay they are happy to take...greed rules every time. Would be nice if they did half price once or twice a month, though maybe not a good idea for booze lol.
Lynibis that's true for some businesses. Places like zoos are stuck by what's been charged to them for things like food and electricity. But for other business its pure greed.
Jerseydrew yes you are right. I think the main greed merchants currently are fuel and energy companies.
telmel yes it is, pub a few yards down the road it's nearly £7 a pint, cheap for kids too, bottles of pop are less than a £1
A lot of pub chains are foreign owned now and you have what are called 'tied' pubs I think which can only get their drinks through their owners which is at an inflated price which they have to pass on. It's a bit like football clubs where they have recognised a client base that are easily exploited financially so foreign companies buy in to them and then rip customers off to the nth degree because they accept it. I like value and hate being ripped off so I personally wouldn't pay it. I remember someone who ran a tied pub and used to cook meals on the premises but the Japanese owners didn't like that and forced them to buy their prepacked food from them again at inflated prices with some of it simply being re-heated in a microwave and fairly poor quality and expensive for what it was. However it was detrimental to the business as the freshly cooked food was a real asset to footfall and for whatever reason he stopped running the pub and so ended up working at the same place as me. He bought in some food once for a charity sell day and I had some and it was fantastic, his wife was an amazing cook.
I use Hungry Horse a lot as they have great price meals but I think they are part of a group owned by a Hong Kong billionaire family and Fullers are owned by a Japanese company etc.
I will be making use of their two english breakfasts for £4.79 when the promotion starts at Hungry Horse tomorrow as £2.40 is cheaper than cooking it at home pretty much. Of course they hope you buy drinks on top etc but I never do. I'm probably loss making which I don't mind considering they are owned by a HK billionaire family.
I use Wetherspoons quite a lot, they pay full tax here and as far as I know are mainly British owned although haven't checked the financials and their prices are very reasonable compared to most pubs.
I think these cheap independent pubs are quite rare and rely on a high footfall of customers which can make the pubs less appealing if getting served is slower and there is nowhere to sit down. Many Wetherspoons are hugely busy too. There is one in Bath that is always too busy when I go there other Wetherspoons are ok. I probably go into a Wetherspoons somewhere at least once a month.
I think the lesson is don't pay rip off prices especially when the business in question is foreign owned and is doing damage to our economy.
I love the hungry horse B, they have really good offers on all the time
I won a £50 voucher a few months a go to use at any one of 2,000 pubs in the chains all over the country and i chose there , and wasn't disappointed
I am also not a big drinker, usually i am driving anyway
