Drive or Walk for the School Run?

Ask a Question

Do you drive or walk for the School Run?

Parking is crazy around the schools in the morning here with them all parked on the zig zags, up on the pavement and making it difficult to see cars coming when crossing the road.

We walk our 5 year old daughter to school and pick her up. It takes us 30 mins to walk with her, but we can walk the journey back home in 20 mins without her.

We do feel very smug walking past all the backed up traffic, but not so much when it’s pouring with rain!

We think it’s good for us all to get this exercise and we’re really proud of our daughter for keeping up with it and never complaining even when it’s raining.

All my children have left school but when they were at school, I walked them all to primary school and they all walked to secondary school except my son who got the bus to a different school in town.

We walk every school day, the only time I drive is if it's pouring down with rain

Til I worked there used to walk. Then worked and drove. I used to finish at 1 and had to be at job number 2 for 2.30 so didn't have the time to walk and have lunch. It was a 30 minute walk. To get to job 2 I had to leave by 1.45 to get parked as parents used to block the road

I drive down in the morning as I go to work straight afterwards. I walk down to collect him in the afternoon though.

We walk our son with our dogs unless in bad weather, and then we take the car

I didn't get a choice as I don't drive so we always walked to school no matter what the weather was like

We walk. The school has started offering the children badges as an incentive for walking or riding their bike/scooter to school, so the kids don't want to miss out on those.
