Scientists have developed a drug that enables animals to live longer , at least another quarter of their natural age
They believe they can do the same with humans , reduce ageing and limit disease at the same time
Ironically two drugs to treat diabetes , metformin and rapamycin, which is taken to prevent an organ transplants being rejected, are both actively being researched for their anti-ageing qualities
What worries me is the governments reaction to all this, when people live longer it causes a big financial strain on the economy, one being pensions, the longer we live the more money they will need to find to fund the extra years we live
This may in the end just benefit people who have money to pay for the drugs privately , leaving the rest of us behind

I am so against this it makes me angry. As you rightly say it will end up being rich privilege and can you imagine a rich person living so much longer than close family members, he may not be rich enough to pay for them all.
Everyone probably knows I am a staunch supporter of limiting families as the world cannot keep supporting an ever growing population and here we are finding ways to stretch resources even more! It's madness! Death cannot be put off it comes to all and I am ready whenever Joe Black comes for me (especially if he look like Brad Pitt
).
People are going doolally over not reinstating child benefit for more than 2 kids. Why should the government/taxpayer pay for your choice to have more than 2 kids? No one needs more than 2 especially when they moan about the cost and have 6+. Why we even pay for 2 is a puzzle to me.
I am sick of money being wasted on extending life, cloning, etc. Cure cancer and other diseases that cut life off too soon.
It will so expensive that ordinary folk won't be able to buy them, I watched an interesting documentary a couple of years ago, that said that the rich are already talking a pill that reduces aging and disease, $10,000 a pill, no wonder the rich and powerful live long lives
martinlufc5637 And who can prove it works, it could be a placebo ,and it won't stop you getting knocked down by a bus for example , unless it is a giant pill that works like an airbag 
Retirement age will have to increase and mortgages might have to be extended especially with the value of property. Perhaps some people will end up taking 50 year mortgages.
