Are Easter Eggs Too Expensive?

Ask a Question

Are Easter Eggs too expensive now?

As with everything else, the price has crept up over the years and the ones that are classed as XL by the supermarkets are certainly not as big as the XL we used to have!

I must admit I have never really regarded Easter as a time for gifting although I do get the grandchildren a small egg. I haven't noticed they are particularly expensive this year as I saw some online I will get for £1.50. To me it is a gesture rather than a proper gift.

Lynibis The £1.50 ones definitely used to be £1.

SamGoodship I must admit I haven't bought for a few years, I give the grandkids a fiver and they can buy one of they like or put the money towards something they want. Must admit I do love receiving one, or four!

I’ll be honest, i’ve been thinking how cheap easter eggs have gone this year. I’ve seen a lot of good offers in supermarkets.

jms19 The prices without offers are definitely higher though. The small eggs used to be £1 and now are £1.25-£1.50.

SamGoodship ah good point actually, I just felt that maybe the bigger ones were on offer more this year compared to previous easters but maybe I’m misremembering

Whenever I'm out shopping, I have been noticing that not as many people have been buying them. Hardly surprising as they are far too expensive now. Even the smallest ones are £1.50 or perhaps £1.25 at the cheapest, when a couple of years ago you could get them for 75p or £1.

Not really you just need to be savvy and buy them when they are on offers also look at the weights and consider the best option , otherwise yes you'll end up paying through the nose.

Instead of an Easter Egg why not buy a big bar of Chocolate, you will get more value for your money...

SamGoodship,My Niece & Nephews are grown up so I give the next generation of the family money so they can decide if they want to spend or put it in their Piggy Bank as they get lots of Easter Eggs & Chocolate..

Easter Egg Hunts are fun, they do them with their family...

In the past we pretty much just gave each other chocolate bars rather than eggs as you got more chocolate for your money. However after easter when they were reduced we would buy them.

Don't forget Topcashback often do a £1.50 chocolate deal at Easter where you just supply them a receipt scan and they credit you £1.50 to your account. Often the chocolate can be £1.50 or more so if you spend only £1.50 its completely free. There is a strong chance they will do it this year again so worth keeping an eye out.

In comparison to the prices even 10 years ago, with the current state of cost of living and the condensing of portions the prices are becoming clearly high

We buy our son the small ones that are usually £1.25 or £1.50. I have bought an egg for his friends before but that was a few years ago now. My mum got him a big egg with smarties for £2 the other week as it was on offer.

My parents send us some money each to spend on whatever we like (£10 each), this year I’ve asked them to pop it on a travel card for my son as we are taking him away on holiday for spending money. Otherwise I don’t buy eggs until after Easter when they are dirt cheap.

I stopped buying Easter eggs years ago until they were discounted after Easter. I prefer to buy a bar of chocolate and get my moneys worth.

I think they are getting more expensive every year, I usually just wait until Tesco or Sainsbury have some on offer and buy them then. There does seem to be a lot more luxury ones around this year though and I wouldn't pay the money for them.

Asda has had some good offers, that's where we've got all ours from, 3 for 2 offers and smaller eggs were reduced to 69p

To buy a special large Easter egg like we use to is very expensive, like lindt or Thornton's. Small eggs are fairly priced considering today's economy. It's the thought that counts , not how much it costs.

I only buy after Easter,as there's no way I would consider paying extortionate prices for an egg shell and what little else comes with it.Small cream eggs are ok for the price,or little bags of pink & blue shell choc filled eggs in the yellow packet usually £1.25 for around 100g.

only buy them on offer. Having said that I know its cheaper to just buy standard chocolate bars but its just not the same, I love Easter Eggs especially creme eggs although I do try to limit them these days as a diabetic. Wont ever stop them completely though!

Everything has got expensive during the cost of living crisis, with no sign of prices coming down. People rely on deals. I know Lidyl here where I am, atm are doing 4 large easter eggs for £9.99. This is a really good offer. I don't like buying easter eggs for the kids, they get enough of them and sweets and chocolate. I'd rather buy them something to wear or to get use out of at holiday times.

I have just been doing some research into certain easter eggs and the price the stores are charging for them are horrendous. You are far better off buying bars of chocolate compared to the boxed eggs as your only getting a fraction of the weight of chocolate in each box compared to actual chocolate bars. It was only a couple of years ago you were getting the egg shell and 3 bar of chocolate, the majority of boxes now only have 1 bar in each 🙄🤔😤

Sammycb You can buy Easter egg moulds off Amazon. Just melt your favourite block of chocolate, spread it onto the mould and leave in fridge to set. Apply 3 or 4 layers. Turns out much cheaper. 👍

Our daughter used to get around 15 Easter Eggs when she was little off everyone, she was still eating them months later!

My partner & I always bought her a gift of £10.

These days I look on Latest Deals & get my partner to order daughter 25, something, always a bargain!

This year we have bought her a Shower Radio, she can play her music,it lights up, has a radio & digital time display, bought one for home, saved £30 on each!

Also bought her some Blue Biker Boots from Pavers in their sale, saved around £25.

Gave her both gifts when she was home earlier this month, she says the Boots are soooo comfortable & she absolutely loves her Shower Radio...

Daughter is our only child, got her last two months of Diagnostic Radiography Degree to do,home this weekend & cooking her Northern Irish Da & Irish Decent Mammy a belated St Patrick's Day Meal...x

I won an easter egg in the Cadburys daily comp, not sure if in an email or on here. Anyway it arrived today but first I had to order it online with the cost being £0 with a code. However the real cost was £9.99 so I thought, mmm nice little prize to give to grandchild.

So, opened it earlier to find it is a medium ish shell with 1 twirl bar. Well, there is no way I would have paid a tenner for it, in fact it looks like the ones I have seen in Tesco for around £.3.50. Hey ho, not looking a gift horse in the mouth.
