What Else Can Be Grown in Large Pots out Side
Other
Hi all I am disabled and I can't do garden work. So I thought I would get some large pots. I am going to grow potatoes, strawberry's, spring onions. I do not like chillys peppers or Herbes. Please could you tell me what else I could grow from the post. And when do you start to sow it. Thank every much for your help.
Carrots from April time. Onion sets and of you want to grow upwards then broccoli and runner beans, salad leaves.
Some helpful.starters are usually in garden centres in small trays ready to transplant.
Hi bw07 thank you ever so much I will do carrots and onions and I will try broccoli. And I never though to grow salad leaves. Thank you .
I love mange tout and runner beans. You could grow both in the same pot. The mange tout never get to the saucepan, they are lovely to eat raw straight from the plant. You can get lower growing runner beans too.
Hi pjran thank you the mange tout sounds tasty yes I will try and grow them and runner beans. I thought about peas but I don't think I can grow them in a pot. When do you start to plant the mange tout and runner beans. Thank for your help.
nicolajaynehend sow directly into the soil once it has warmed up in late spring. Sow in batches for a continuous supply. Just pick and eat enjoy, water daily in pots.
I grow tomatoes in pots and a selection of herbs. The tomatoes do very well and I gave away loads last year as they grew very well in that heat we had!
nicolajaynehend I like to grow cherry tomatoes. As long as they have plenty of support with sturdy bamboo canes or similar they should be fine. They do need regular feeding with something like tomorite.
Hi Lynibis thank you ever so much for your help. I am going to try and grow them will let you know how I get on. When do you start to sow them or do you buy them part growen.
nicolajaynehend i have done both but have usually sown seeds in little peat pots by now, though it is not too late, I just like to get a head start and start them off indoors. You can then put the peat pots straight into the earth, (when there is no frost and at least a sturdy stem with half a dozen leaves), where you will grow them. I usually rip the pots down the side so they have a bit of 'leg room' for the roots to spread.
