Should Energy Drinks Be Banned for under 16s?

Ask a Question

Should energy drinks be banned for under-16s?

Labour plans to ban high-caffeine drinks for kids if they win the election. Do you think a ban would be effective?

Most products that are banned for any age group tend to become considered deviant and therefore more popular. If they bring in this ban it will only make it more desirable and they will obviously find ways around it so they can show off with the energy drinks like a status symbol lol

EmmaWright762 It would definitely lessen the amount being sold to teens though - our local home bargains has all the teens stopping in on their way to school and buying the cheapest ones possible.

What's next, they'll come for Coca Cola and Pepsi next?

Labor keeps focusing on issues that are of lesser importance than the big ones, such as tackling crime.

12 year olds with a machete?? What's going on here, this isn't right. And they killed that poor guy. 😞

When I was 12 I'd watch cartoons and play games... What's wrong with today's generation.

PhilipMarc I don't think it's anything to do with this generation being worse than the previous ones, bad things happen in every generation.

I believe they should be but they would still get hold of them. Where there's a will there's a way.

It wouldn't make any difference most parents buy them for their kids anyway

Leannexxx I agree with you regarding the parents BUYING the drinks and GIVING IT to them under 16. Is this all Labour can come up with? A pointless manifesto?

They should be harder to get hold of. Too many people young and old rely on them to get through the day

Don’t know why young kids need energy boosting drinks anyway - surely they can function on their youth alone?!

The main supermarkets already have an over 16s only age restriction in place on energy drinks. If anyone scans a energy drink at a self-checkout the item needs to be approved by a member of staff. Although, even if they are officially banned for younger consumers, like cigarettes and alcohol, if any under 16 year old is motivated enough they would still be able to get hold of some.

ACR Home bargains and B&M always have teens buying the energy drinks.

Yes they should be banned for under 16s. Awful drinks. Really additive drinks.

MrsChimp works in the local shop and their policy is not to sell energy drinks to under 16s.

Btw, can we keep politics out of this please

TheChimp My discussion is based on this being in the headlines. You do not have to address the politics if you do not wish to.

Can I start spouting off about the israel/Gaza conflict now if you're allowing it about energy drinks?

Yes I think they should be banned. I think they are making kids hyper.I would look at the ingredients in them and are they paying sugar tax on these drinks? Kids will be climbing the walls the more they drink these drinks.I know kids have been looking for an so called energy drink called PRIME.We used to drink diluted drinks and it didn't send any of us hyper.

They are bad for your health if you don’t actually need extra energy . My brother used to drink these drinks with his mates at school . He started to struggle to sleep so my dad took him to the doctor and he was told it was down to the energy drinks
