Had You Ever Heard of a Poke Bowl?
Ask a Question
I very rarely buy lunch out, but the other day I had my first poke bowl, it was a Chicken & Sweet Pepper Poke and was delicious.
I wasnt familar with the term, so looked it up and Poke means "to slice or cut" in Hawaiian and refers to chunks of raw, marinated fish — usually tuna — which is then tossed over rice and topped with vegetables and umami-packed sauces. The next generation of sushi, obviously mine was a variation on the theme
Imagine my surprise, to learn that this food trend has been around for years, am I the only one behind the times ?
No you're not, I have never heard of it and the thought of eating raw fish turns my stomach.
Lynibis Love sushi, but the one I had was Chicken, which was cooked
If you like rice I would recommend, bought because it was 3 for 2
I have had a couple of these from Waitrose, one was really tasty and delicious and the other one wasn’t. Can’t remember the flavours now.
eyeballkerry Its the first time I have seen them in Asda, so I assumed they were a new product
I thought you were about to talk about Pokémon for a sec, I know next to nothing about those either. I feel I have seen the things you have described but not looked in to or tried. If most of them appear to be fish that would possibly be why as I'm not interested in that
Yes I have seen these but never tried them, our daughter & I love Sushi, partner not so..
So many experiences to try now she's finished her Diagnostic Radiography Degree & is coming home..x
In Northern Ireland a POKE was an
ice cream cone , in England it's slang for something very different!!
My partner tells everyone the story of when his Irish mammy went to the Ice cream man in Sheffield asking him for a Poke...
He ended the story with....No wonder she has 12 children!!!
All my partner's 11 siblings are still alive. the oldest turned 81 yesterday & my partner's the wee baby of the family at 63 in August!
I've seen them constructed on a cooking show, but never tried one. Guess that I will get round to it one day.
