Have You Ever Learnt to Crochet?

Ask a Question

Trying to teach my daughter at the moment. I was never taught as a child. Knitting was more popular. Which do you do ?

I can knit don’t know anything about crocheting apart from you use a hook. Maybe there are some you tube sites you could use. Sorry 😢

I have it on my list of things to do as does my mother.I even bought some shiny coloured crochet needles .I watched a video on You Tube but it hasn't happened yet if indeed it ever will.Maybe as/when/if I'm confined to my chair. Image

eyeballkerry it's very straight forward, well what I do is, squares or circles then sew together though I did once make a 'simple' dress. This may help

I have learned to knit before but I have never done crochet. My Nan did some when she was alive and now my niece is really skilled at it.

I was taught to knit and to crochet when I was younger. I never kept up with either though. Been teaching the pupils how to cross stitch recently, they have been really enjoying it.

My Mum showed me how to knit when I was younger but not done it for years, it is on my to do list to teach myself crocheting at some point though.

Back in primary school and I was quite good at it. But couldn't do it now without relearning

Thank you for all your comments. She has picked it up really well. Her first project will be a blanket for the cats.

I taught myself to crochet many years ago, before there was help on the internet. I love a new challenge and I've made many blankets - some of which have been auctioned for charities - as well as a cotton crocheted children's dress and toys. I can knit, but it's not exactly my better skill!

AlysonC Wow, amazing you taught yourself. The internet can be very helpful trying new things. My daughter is doing very well and so far it looks really good.

eyeballkerry Good that she's doing well. I taught a friend years ago, and tried to teach my children and my niece but they gave up too quickly. The problem that they had was keeping tension on the wool.

AlysonC My daughter has done really well with tension. So far it is pretty solid. It produces an item that is much harder than knitting. Obviously different stitches produce different end results

I have never felt the urge to crochet and much prefer knitting. Crochet seems a bit old ladyish to me and I wouldn't like any crochet stuff around my home. However, I love knitting baby clothes for family members.

I admire all the wondrous things that clever crochet makers can do. It looks like a trick with a magic wand from afar!
