Ever Had a Problem with Pet Insurance?
Ask a Question
Lets talk issues with pet insurance - have you ever had trouble with claiming and been left to foot the bill?
Thankfully I haven't had to use mine for the dog yet.
Our dog needed emergency surgery. Insurance paid for it, no issues. Had to claim again when she was put down. Insurance paid out again, no issues. Only thing they didn't pay for was the cremation and the urn. Cost us £90 instead of £700. Our insurance was great.
MrsCraig What is the name of your company used? My neighbour is looking for a better insurer for her dog
tmcelligott we were with PetPlan. Had life insurance on her so she was covered for everything. Think she was £35 a month but we felt it was worth it for peace of mind.
I have never had pet insurance but when my dog needed surgery than I wished I did until the vet informed me the surgery she needed would not have been covered by insurance.
I had real problems with insurance for my dog. I held insurance for 13 years and never made a claim until my poor dog fell ill. Unfortunately, the illness necessitated surgery and investigative testing which does not come cheap. Sadly the illness proved fatal and my beloved dog was later euthanized. This period of illness/treatment span two separate years for insurance purposes (although the cumulative period of sickness was less than one month). My claim for recompense was agreed BUT because the new year of insurance cover had kicked in (less than one week) the insurance company deducted the total cost of treatment from the aggregate premiums for the new year meaning that I was still left with a hefty bill of £8000+. The whole situation left a really nasty taste in my mouth because I felt that the treatments/surgery which occurred in the previous year of cover should have been paid in full instead of being rolled over into the new year. It really made me question the true value of buying pet insurance.....
