Have You Ever Protested?

Ask a Question

A lot of protests and marching have been in the news this week so I wanted to ask, have YOU ever taken part in one?

Oh boy, when Southend Council wanted to put a road through the middle of Priory Park (land left for 'the people' to enjoy with the Council's only role to play as being custodians. I had friends looks after my then little girl and we protested outside Civic Centre. Some strangers turned up who nobody knew or anything about for that matter. They ruined the demonstration with their bad behaviour which played right into the Council's hands making the protest look bad. We now have reason to believe they were paid to do it. To date they have not put any roads through our park.

Our local hospital was threatened with closer and a few hundred of us marched through the town with local m p. local mayor etc. The hospital was in the same grounds as the GP surgery so well used for blood tests, X-rays etc and also had a dentist. Now it’s closed if you don’t have your own transport it’s 1 hour 15 minute bus journey into the city and various bus times to the different hospitals. Thats progress.

I remember as a kid we took part in a drop the debt protest in Birmingham which was pretty big if i remember rightly.

I do think protesting is a powerful thing to do and would happily join in for a cause i believe in

No I've never protested. I remember when there was the big teachers march in Glasgow and a few of our friends took part in it but we didn't. I think protesting can be very powerful, if done in the right way. We certainly won our campaign.
