Too Expensive to Go Away as a Family?
Ask a Question
Is it too expensive to take your kids on holiday in the Summer?
Now all the kids have broken up for the Summer, lots of families will be looking at going away. But are holiday companies pricing out too many families? The prices for both UK and Abroad really go up during school hols.
A family holiday during school holidays is a luxury, yet many still manage the expense. Watching the news last night when they were reporting the flight delays there were loads of families.
Is camping a cheaper option? It used to be but I have no idea what it’s like these days. When I was little we camped every other year.
I dont have a family but yes it definitely is too expensive to go away at peak times. There should be a cap really on how much more they can charge but it’s not really possible
We always book well in advance, we book on February for the following year,, always a lot cheaper, example, when we booked for turkey for next year, we booked this February, it was £1360, when I've just looked for same holiday/dates/ flight times it is now £2490
JLouM best thing is you only have to pay a small deposit with easyJet and then you have 18 months to pay the rest, works out great for us
Nothing new here, been like this for as long as I remember.
If your willing to risk the weather in this country you can still get 7 night holidays this summer for a family of 4 on various holiday parks for less than £500.
Prices have always done up in the school holidays, supply and demand they call it, I call it a rip off. Like others have suggested, camping is going to be one of the cheapest holidays. If you are lucky you can get a last minute booking with a villa company. If you like cruising they do some very good deals on family cabins but have to book well in advance for those.
Yes, thankfully we only have one child but I really don’t understand how people can afford more than one and still have things like family holidays. it’s shocking how they can get away with putting the prices up so much!
It's ridiculous isn't it. You take kids out of school to go away and you get penalised for it. The companies put their prices up because they can get away with it. It's greed that make them do it
As I'm down in the south west close to beaches I tend to do day trips more which are less hassle and more enjoyable for me than all the expense and hassle of going abroad or somewhere else in the country. I do like the idea of avoiding some of the UK winter by having a holiday in the southern hemisphere but not really bothered about a summer holiday abroad. 30 plus temperatures are a nightmare for me so generally I'm looking for places around 20-25 degrees which might be a autumn or spring break for some places. As off peak is often cheaper too seems a no brainer to do that. I think I'd die if I went to Dubai in the summer.
We took our son on a staycation to see friends. We went back down to where we used to live. One of the hotels was more expensive than the others because of the location. It definitely isn't as cheap as it used to be to holiday in the UK.
I find holidays abroad to be too expensive during holidays we don't even have passport. We are going to Wales for week
