Laser Eye Surgery

I've never had eye surgery, I have to wear glasses all the time, everything is blurry without them. It might be worth speaking to an optician or optometrist about your eyesight and if it is worth getting surgery.

Have you had an eye test? I am sure you have if you are worried. But if you haven't I would urge you to do so, it seems strange that your vision is blurred both close and distant. When this happened to me it was due to cataracts which have been done, twenty years ago.

Usually folk are either short or long sighted so I assume that if both are affected there may be something else going on. I am now long sighted and do not need glasses for tv, driving, out and about but do need for reading and close work.

Please have an eye test, you should do so every 2 years, don't even think of going to some private eye surgery place until you have at least done that and they tell you what is causing the blurriness.

I had eye laser treatment over twenty years. My mum and I had a special offer, buy one get one free at the time. The treatment went well and I didn’t have to wear glasses at all for many years. I just need them occasionally now for reading.

Best thing to do is to have an eye test as soon as possible.They will make an assessment for cataracts and refer you to your GP who will then refer you for a hospital appointment.I have had both eyes done this past year.This was a very quick procedure done in 10 minutes.No pain.Please don't be afraid as the the opthamologists are very competent.Mine was an NHS referral but done in a private hospital used by the NHS to cut waiting times.

I have long considered laser eye surgery but have heard mixed reports. Some people who had it tell me it’s one of the best things they’ve done and then others say it was painful and led to further eye problems that they didn’t have before.

My dad is in his 80s and because of pandemic treatment was delayed so his cataracts really deteriorated. He had to have surgery on both eyes at the same time! It was laser but he got through it. He had some optometrist that was in some way connected to the main hospital but dad had it done in clinic. He had 3 different types of eye drops and then some follow up laser treatment as well. He’s fine now. Still uses drops but could have lost his sight altogether so relieved he had it done.

Wow thank you all for your replies, l will make an appointment with Specsavers as they are in my local high street ( unless people don't rate this one?) I actually don't know what cataracts are, but l will Google now, l just thought/ assumed my eyes are deteriorating cos of my age.

I had my referral from Specsavers.They will do a good job and if you need glasses, their prices are fair.

I am dead squeamish about eyes.I use a thing called the Bates method which is controversial but I find it quite effective.I seldom if ever wear glasses these days because we don't need em half as much as we often think we do.I don't need 20/20 vision to see a bus or a 37inch Tv.I put em on for a few secs when I am reading the small print on Prime reviews.

Have you considered having a free consultation as most places that do private eye treatment do give you a consultation for free. They’ll talk through your treatment and what prices and you can have interest free payments too.

Two of my friends have had laser eye surgery and it went well for them, it may not be what you need but book an eye test.

I’ve not had it, and tbh I’m fine with glasses…most days. My prescription is high so there’s no guarantee I won’t need glasses or corrective surgery after I’ve had the procedure. I know people who have successfully had surgery and glasses free many years later. A consultation will help you decide

Eye test first & foremost. You could be suffering from AMD which I am. Someone has said that you are either long or short sighted. Over the age of 50 you can become both which happened to me. I am short sighted and then couldn't read small print close unless I took glasses off. So I'm now prescribed with varifocal lenses. Brilliant & better than bi focal as there is no visible line. You may not need surgery which is painless. Just discomfort until it heals. Mother had cataracts done and it's all good. You need find the root issue first

I get a decent eye test every two years as I am using display screens all day as part of my work. Also being diabetic means I get additional tests. I have been thinking about laser treatment but will probably try to get my hearing sorted out first - I'm falling apart!

I'd be afraid of doing laser eye surgery, I'm honestly fine with my own eyes and wearing glasses when needed.

My sister got it done a few year ago she said it was the best thing she's ever done ,when she had her glasses, she had to put them on and take them off all the time so she decided on eye laser
