What Would You Do If You Found Money on the Floor?
Ask a Question
This will be a heated chat topic!! What would you do?! If I saw the person drop it I’d call out to them if there’s no one then yeah I’d probably take it.
My family member saw someone do just that in town.
Many years ago when I had just passed my driving test and was driving, my mum in the passenger seat suddenly shouted stop the car ! I was like omg why?! She said there’s £20 on the ground!! So she opened the door and picked it up!
My brother also saw a lady telling a member of staff at The Body Shop someone left some cash and the guy cashier took it and placed it in his trouser pocket, maybe to see if the person would return looking for it if they even noticed they left it on the table! Or you never know the guy could have just kept it!!
If it's Money and I don't know who's it is I'd keep it lol but if it's a wallet or purse I'll hand it in
Depends how much I found but a few pounds, just keep it ,unless there was someone around that I thought may have dropped it , in which case i would ask them .
I have found many a purse and wallet in the street, if they have ID in l always post them back (not even with a covering note) lve also come across money, a twenty pound note being the largest amount just lying in the road... have to keep it if no one is around to claim it , however l do thank the universe and try and spend it wisely. A few years ago when most people paid by cash on their trips out l once collected over £100 in a jar throughout the year, from coins to notes, not so much nowadays as most use cards. There is a Local Found Page on Facebook that I'm always posting on ie. Glasses, Keys, Pieces of jewellery, Phones even the old item of clothing that falls of a pram, most or returned to their happy owners, the glasses if not claimed go to Specsavers
Pinkspirit I once lost my wallet temporarily, but thankfully I dropped it at my father's farm so it was safe even though I had no idea until I looked through where I'd been.
Not sure if I had lost it in a public place if anyone would return it or even be in one piece.
I sure hope to never lose it again because it was a horrible feeling.
PhilipMarc l totally understand that it's like a sick feeling in your stomach when you lose something of value, even worse if you never find it or if someone else finds it and feels that they have the right to keep all or some of the contents
Pinkspirit wow that’s very great of you to do so!! Well done thanks for sharing what good deeds you do!!
kitty88uk l keep my fingers crossed that if l ever lose my purse, phone or bag, the person who finds it has the same morals as myself
Pinkspirit that’s true! We all hope that too! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this chat topic
martinlufc5637 haha nice my mum found some money twice at different places just the other day and there was no one around
Last year during a heavy storm my daughter was entering the newsagent and noticed a wad of notes. She picked it up and took it in to the shop, they weren’t interested. So in the rain she wrote several notes and put them under the windscreen wipers of the cars parked nearby just saying have you lost anything? After several hours someone rang stating exactly how much she found and it was returned.
I remember earning 3 pounds an our cleaning in a pub, on my way home something told me to cross the road even though I didn't live on that side, I looked down and saw 30 pounds on the deserted pavement, I believe it was a gift from heaven
It’s not happened to me but parents found loose £10 in Sainsburys on floor or shelf 2-3 times in the same area. There was no one around each time so kept it. My niece found loose cash on the beach in summer once and about £50! There was no one around so took it and promptly spent it in a clothes shop.
I was coming home from church in the pouring rain and I was stoney broke. There was a soppy wet £20 note all but melded into the pavement and not a soul in sight.I gently prized it off and dried it at home.God does indeed move in mysterious ways lol.If I find expensive goods or a wallet with name/address in I will go all out to locate the owner.
I found £20 note the other day while out walking. Finders keepers. I found a wallet a few years ago and managed to find the owner. Didn’t even get a thank you. My husband spotter a £10 note at our local crossroads and made me get out and play with the traffic, I got it and I kept it.
eyeballkerry cool great day to have gone out walking !! wow that’s rude you have the wallet back yet no damn thank you?! Wtf
Well done for doing so! Omg thank goodness you were okay with the damn traffic!!
kitty88uk I go out walking most days and generally find small amounts which I save separately in a piggy bank, it’s a nice surprise when I finally go to empty it. Every little helps, as they say.
If I find it and haven't seen who dropped it I keep it. Finders keepers. If I find a wallet I hand it intact to the police or put on Facebook to see if I can find the owner. Found 20p yesterday on the beach
It would depend how much it was. If it was a couple of pence or a pound then probably keep it. If it was £5, £10 or £20 then I would hand it into the nearest shop or the police station. I found a £5 note in my classroom a few weeks ago. First thing I did was hand it into the office and send an email to get the other staff to ask if any pupil had lost it. My husband list a tenner a few months ago. Retraced his steps straight away but couldn't find it. His first thought was hopefully the person who found it needed it more than me.
If it's inside any building it's best to hand it in or find it's owner. If it's outside it's difficult to know where it came from so if I can't see anyone looking round desparately looking for it I certainly don't go around asking 'whose lost a tenner' lol. If I did I can more or less everyone would be answering 'me'. lol
EmmaWright762 I so agree with you! Exactly everyone else will say yeah it’s theirs they dropped it but with no proof!
If I found money I would definitely keep it. If someone can’t look after their money properly then they shouldn’t have it imho.
I found a folded £20 on the ground near my local taxi station so I popped to see if one of the drivers had dropped it, they told me to pop it in my pocket and treat myself to a drink, but as id seen a taxi just pull away I thought it might have been theirs and I was standing there when the driver phoned up and said that the guy who’s getting in, his taxi had dropped his money and couldn’t pay his fare he said he dropped a £20 note so I was right it did belong to the person who had just got in the taxi so that person got his money back
Hand it in I have done it twice but when my purse got lifted at a supermarket no one handed it in in fact someone used my boots points just under £35 worth I was so mad but hey at least I have a clear conscience
If i saw the person drop it i would always let them know. If i couldn’t see who dropped it and it was a smaller amount, i’d keep it. If it was a significant amount i would hand it into the police.
My friend found £850 on the ground and he did hand it in to the police. The Sargent sent him a letter saying he had restored his faith in humanity and on top of that no one claimed the money so he got to keep it anyway!
Usually I'd let the shop assistants know it had been found and a contact number. I wouldn't leave it at the shop! Finds in the street - similar if there is an obvious outlet nearby, otherwise I'd think fate had smiled favourably on me!
I found a purse on the pavement once, and it was bulging with money! There was an old lady tottering along a little way in front of me and by looking inside the purse I realised it must have been hers and she had dropped it after collecting hers and her husband's pension. I tried calling out to her and hurrying to catch her up (I had my toddler with me at the time) she started walking faster, I think she probably thought I was going to mug her Anyway a man that she knew came along and she stopped him and was talking to him which gave me chance to catch up. Out of breath I told her that I thought she had dropped something important could she please check her bag. So she checked the bag and her face went white, I didn't want to have to call an ambulance so I said "it's ok, lovely, I came out of the PO after you and I picked it up" Gave her back her purse and she burst into tears. She said not many people around here would have done what you did and tried to give me some money but I couldn't take it.
mudgesheila50 What an honest person you are. Even though the person had the wrong ideas you still pursue her and gave her the money back and refused any reward for it. Wow that's all I can say.
jam45 I was brought up to do the right thing I guess. If she hadn't stopped to talk to the man, I would have followed her discreetly til she got home (I had a good idea where she lived, not far from me) and then tried to put the purse through the letterbox. It was so fat I don't think it would have gone through so I thought I'd leave it on the doorstep and ring the bell. I would have waited a bit away to make sure that she picked it up and not some random person going past.
I can't speak for others, but I get a good feeling when I've done the right thing
mudgesheila50 well done great what you did! Thanks for sharing your story! I would definitely give money back to person who dropped it if I saw them
I found a purse once which had an address inside and I returned it to the owner, my partner went was at the cashpoint when he noticed a wad of money still in the dispenser, a man run up and said it was his, insisted on giving my partner £10 for a beer. If I find money on the floor which isn't very often I would keep it.
