What Fake Products Have You Bought?
Other
It could be a product pretending to be made by a major company or simply a product that hides it's true specification and is actually a much lower specification.
I'm just returning a Android Tablet to Amazon which claimed a spec of 4GB memory, 64GB storage, Android 9.0 and high resolution cameras. In fact using system info utils shows it was actually 1GB of memory, 16GB of storage (I think), Android 5.1 and much lower resolution cameras than stated. Not much would work on it because of the very dated operating system. It was a very cheap tablet for sure but again you expect it to be as described. It was purchased from Amazon Warehouse with their current 20% off promotion.
julie781x There is also the issue of knowing you have bought fake products. I seem to remember a retailer was caught out in the past which was grey importing products and it turned out they were fake rather than official products meant to be sold in other countries. So we may have products we don't realise are fake. Lots of fake products on aliexpress, ebay, Amazon marketplace and various other online sites.
BonzoBanana yes still working 10 years on . That's the truth I changed the battery only and I always remember the guy saying its a lifetime warranty lol
Only fake product I've ever purchased was sunglasses in Turkey, I don't buy fake clothes ect..
martinlufc5637 Be careful with fake sunglasses M, they will not be polarised even if they say so on the glasses and will damage your eyesight
telmel I remember reading that quite expensive sunglasses from Aliexpress had no sun protection but poundlands sunglasses did. Sunglasses are probably best bought in the UK where there is a certification process.
BonzoBanana The ones you buy abroad are the worst B, totally fake with fake details , and i would never buy any from ali express or temu as you can never trust this type of thing from China , kudos to poundland though
As far as I know I have never purchased any fake products. I do see a lot when I am on holiday and 100% you know they are fake.
I brought a channel and a Jimmy Choo bag from Turkey in 2007...Oh my Gosh are they fakes as they are still going strong , l am guilty of buying the real McCoy once (Toiletries, Coffee) and then pouring my cheap brands in once they are empty
Pinkspirit Didn't there used to a perfume company that would formulate knock offs of famous perfumes and people would use them to refill the original product containers. In fact I think people would sell the empty original containers on ebay and people would buy them to refill with fake perfume and then sell them again on ebay as the original product for a huge markup. It was a known scam a year or so back.
BonzoBanana l love channel No5 & YSL Libre, l would never buy knock off perfume, l see the fake perfumes on FB for sale, l believe the smell wears off really quickly..
A wile back I bought a pair of wrangler jeans on Amazon . The belt loop pulled of first time I tried them on the material was shocking poor quality . They were so obviously fake , returned for full refund but they remained on sale on Amazon they obviously know that the seller is selling knockoffs and are doing nothing about it
Mick82 I remember a few years ago there was some jeans that were discovered to be fake because they were double stitched and better made than the originals in that regard. So surprisingly in a small amount of cases the fake products are better quality. I remember it as the story struck me as quite funny.
BonzoBanana seen a few things along that line myself I ordered two fake Nike T-shirts of Sara mart just to see what they would be like , the quality of the material was far better than any real Nike t I’ve ever seen
Mick82 Nike are still using the horrible factories in Bangladesh, Pakistan etc to make their clothes and shoes so its no surprise quality can be low at times. I had some entry level Nike trainers and they were terrible. I bought them on ebay so I guess I can't be 100% certain they were genuine but they looked exactly the same as the images on the Nike site at the time which actually didn't look that great quality in the images themselves. I'm 90% sure they were genuine and really they were 2 or 3x the price they should have been for the quality most places were selling them at. Nike is just a brand. Yes they have their own designers of products but then those designs are handed over the whichever factory has bid the least for the contract.
I tend not to bother with fake products nowadays. I have bought a few in my time though. Echoing what has been said some were really good quality! I remember a pair of 'Levi's' that I bought that outlasted the genuine article.
I purchased a fake rolex watch for my mum 30 years ago from Thailand. It's still working perfectly today.
stevea808 I must admit I really fancy a fake Rolex but not sure I've seen any from within the UK and ideally I would want to see it close up to see the quality of it so it would need to be a market or something. I've seen videos from China where they cost very low amounts of money, less than $10 for very authentic looking watches.
BonzoBanana I thinking you can get many fake things from abroad . Not strict like the uk.
BonzoBanana I bought a few many years ago B, some were surprisingly well made ,the later ones are obviously fake having batteries instead of a mechanism
As far as I am aware I have never bought any fake products. I am always careful when shopping online, I don't buy from the likes of aliexpress, shien or temu and always check carefully before buying from Amazon.
One of my first competition wins was a designer bag from Aspinal of london
It was a yellow and black snakeskin handbag and they valued it at £800 , i gave it as a gift and after three uses the front came away from the backing ,
It needed reglueing and to be fair it is still ok but it has not been used much
