What is Your Favourite or Best Cake to Make?
Ask a Question
I have always loved making cup cakes but find them a bit too much faffing around these days. My current fave (excuse the pun) is a light family fruit cake which i make in a loaf tin. It is moist but crumbly with a flaked almond and demerara sugar crispy topping. Second fave is victoria sponge.
I like lemon drizzle as always moist. I also enjoy making choc chip muffins as easier than cupcakes. But right now I shouldn’t be eating cake! . I’m too fat.
Our family favourite is a coffee and walnut cake. We finally got a really good recipe that works every time. Now I want to make one….
eyeballkerry lol. I don't like anything coffee flavour except the drink itself but would probably eat if offered
Lynibis Wow, I am the opposite of you. Can’t stand a cup of coffee but love coffee cake and absolutely love coffee chocolates which are few and far between.
eyeballkerry I have been caught with the chocs before and have to spit in bin....very ladylike!
Cook/Make???, l can burn a salad or trifle , l love going to a home made bakery and treating myself to a delicious cake that l know l will never be able to make, now rock cakes are a different matter all together, l just throw all the ingredients in together and hope for the best....
Pinkspirit yes they are easy, but yummy too. The cake I make is exact same as rock cake mixture so have a go. Just line a loaf tin and scrape all the mixture in it........voila!
Pinkspirit I think anyone can make them. It’s just practice. The main thing is creaming the butter and sugar to make a smooth no lump base. As long as that part is right mixing the rest is easy.
Tangy lemon cake or victoria sandwich are our favourites. I made this one last weekend - it went in a flash!
tumblespots l bet it went in a flash...and l was just about to grab an invite and a slice, next time maybe!!
I like to make anything that’s low effort but tastes good. No bake cheesecake, rice crispy cakes etc.
For years I’ve been meaning to make a hummingbird cake but not got round to it yet
beccatavender mmm me too. Wonder what it would be like as a Victoria sponge with lemon curd and cream filling.
I dont cook but luckily for me my wife is an amazing cook and she loves to bake. Prefer fruit based cakes but will eat any that she makes.
I've been making cup cakes, victoria sanwichs since I was little and still enjoy baking them, also like a lemon drizzle, so yummy.

janphoenix51 Used to make ginger cakes a lot when kids were young but nowadays so much of my ingredients get wasted as I don't bake often.
I like baking - but my kids favourite is banoffee pie- which really isn’t baking at all! I like banana bread.
suevernon1968 I had a great recipe for banana bread, g'daughter loved it, but lost along the way. I think banoffee pie counts lol. My go to is a quiche.
