Do you have any ideas or suggestions for LatestDeals.co.uk?
Is there something you would like or an improvement to the site?
Please write your suggestions here in the comments.
Just jumping in to encourage everyone to comment with any new features you'd like. We want to make LD great and can't do that without all your input. As the resident geek it'll be my job to actually implement the new features but what we add is completely up to all of you
WindowShopper Morning Sorry about this please try again and should be working
Hey guys,
Is there a way to change/edit the deal? Eg from Freebie to Voucher once already posted?
[Updated 2020: You can now change your username once. Read this guide]
Hi again nemosays afraid this isn't possible at the moment. Quite a lot of things behind the scenes need to change when the username updates. Its on the roadmap but unfortunately behind quite a few other things! As LD is still new I'd suggest you just sign up with another account if you'd like a different name.
Kelsey you should make a column for people to share what the have won/freebie they have received I think it will encourage more users to keep trying!
I find viewing the deals pages kind of frustrating and would like to customise the view so it is easier to read the deals. It would be great if i had the option to change the layout so it was in list form with one deal under the next.
It would also be good if i could subscribe to threads. For example if i made a PS4 news thread here in chat. I could subscribe to that thread and be able to find it easily from my profile rather than bookmark or manually search through chat for the same thread i would like to visit often.
There seems to be no way to say if something is a bad deal. The community should be filtering the deals. With no downvote button and only upvote this can't really happen. There should be no deal limit as the site needs deals. People will miss out on deals if there is a limit as typically a few users post the majority of good deals. Let people post as many deals as they like. Let the community then decide if those are good deals or not.
You are doing a good job here guys anyway and i am just offering some suggestions to make the site even better with more deals and better filtering and customisation. Something it will definitely need as the site grows.
Hi Dread thanks for the feedback
You can change to a list view by clicking the gear cog on the sidebar on the left hand side. We're working on making that a bit more obvious and available on mobile too!
Very much like the idea of subscribing to threads and should (famous last words) be fairly straightforward to integrate with our notifications system. Watch this space!
I appreciate the feedback on upvotes/downvotes - we've built LD in a way that will enable us to easily enable downvotes in the future if that turns out to be the general consensus of the community. We thought we'd try with a positive upvote only approach to start with the hope that if anyone thinks a deal isn't very good or an alternative is available elsewhere at a better price that they'd comment instead.
Similarly we're taking on all the feedback about the deal limits - Bestoffer we are listening! - and want to create a good balance. No doubt it'll take a few iterations and different approaches but with everyone's feedback I'm sure we'll get there!
Thanks again!
Thanks Kelsey. Don't know why i didn't see the cog. That is much better and great the feature is already here. Good also that subscribing could become a feature.
While commenting in the threads to say if a deal is bad or good it is counterproductive to being able to see good and bad deals at a glance. It would also hinder any filtering done by the community. It is deal after deal. Rather than good deal standing out against bad deals at a glance. Without it you get bored and frustrated looking for the good deals you want. The upvote system with no downvote by the community is also very open to abuse. A company\individual upvotes its deal multiple times (different IP's and users) with no community option to correctly adjust its influence. The tried and tested method using community upvotes and downvotes from sites like say reddit always work. With relevant and good posts rising to the top and non relevant or not as good posts going down to the bottom. All posts still on the site just better catogorised and sorted.
If you go to the competitions section and choose the 'Ending' option, you'll see that there a few active posts and then you have to scroll past the expired ones.
Is it possible to have the posts that have ended move to the back of the queue, or, can you put an option to exclude expired posts?
Would it be possible to have page arrows at the top above the comments as well as below, or at least an arrow to jump to the bottom.
Right now, it's only the 'Bug Hunting' thread that has more than 50 comments but it's a pain having to scroll down. I can use the Space bar but what about those using a phone or tablet?
Another suggestion is how about having a thread search bar. If a user has a question, somebody else may have already created a thread with the same or similar question.
There's now an arrow to jump to the bottom of the page - I snuck it in before other stuff higher up on the list - I'll have a look at having the pagination near the top too for a future update!
[Update: There is now an Android app available for Latest Deals]
Hi Rockman - we're keen to really nail the functionality of the website before we get the apps up and running. But the app is on our radar!
Is there anything in particular you find annoying when using the website on a mobile?
Kelsey The Pedlar app is still up on the Play Store so couldn't that be modified to show up LD deals?
Instead of having the comment box at the top, wouldn't it be better to have it at the bottom, that way after somebody has read the comments they don't need to scroll back up to make a comment.
Good suggestion but how about we take the greedy approach and have it at the top and bottom?
Comment box is now at the bottom too if there's more than 5 comments on a deal/topic
Great website guys, well designed, fast and well laid out!
Just over from Pedlar to sign up!
Keep up the good work.
>;o)
How do you change your avatar though?
Or view conversations you have taken part in without searching for em!
Hi garygemmell Thanks for the kind comments and glad to see you on LD!
You can change your avatar by going to your Profile page and clicking "Edit"
Unfortunately there's no way to see a list of deals/topics you've participated in (yet!) but you should get a notification when ever someone replies to you, mentions you or comments in a topic or deal you started.
Hi Tom, Deepak, Kelsey Just a thought would help if we had a Christmas SectionΒ in theΒ categories so people searching for Christmas gifts could go straight to what they are looking for
To not let people have multiple accounts that make the deal posting limit and any voting a joke.
People really do that? Suppose so. Even if the admins blocked the user's IP they could still use VPN if they wanted.
Could it work and would it be a good idea to also have the Latest and Popular buttons in between the the More and Share buttons on the floating header? bar.
I've noticed on 'It which must not be named' quite a lot of the people on that site, even some who have been members for several years don't notice what is right in front of them. They're quick to start scrolling down the page only looking at the Hot section, not using the different selections at the top.
I agree. Only until recently I noticed where the 'Latest' deals' option was as I'm not used to this UI.
Thanks for the suggestion Bash! We have something in the pipeline akin to a walkthrough or introduction for new users to explain how to filter by category and perhaps we could extend it to how to sort the deals too?
I'm 100% with you and know a lot of people don't spot the filtering/sorting options. Part of why we have the categories listed on the sidebar as we do is to hopefully make it more immediately obvious that people can customise LD to their interests.
Unfortunately I'm not sure putting the sorting options into the header would work on smaller screens or tablets/mobiles where space is at a real premium. We'll definitely give it some thought though as to how to make it more obvious and if there is anywhere else we can move them to
It'd be good if Latest Deals had a TrustPilot hyperlinked logo to check reviews of the website as a lot of people rely on TP before committing to spend money. It's a great way to identify scam and non-scam websites.
Rockman ... omg what a coincidence.. I just happen to see h**d's sponsored ad on fb asking people to leave a trust pilot review! Lol
Hi Rockman
Good suggestion! We had similar on Pedlar but it turns out I was being a bit naughty. Apparently I shouldn't have used the Trust Pilot logo without paying Trust Pilot for a premium account. That's why one hasn't made it's way over to LD yet.
Whilst it's not a massive cost, we're not sure it's an expense we can justify at the moment but is something we're looking into!
Perhaps an appropriate compromise would be to have a text link to TrustPilot rather than using their logo. I'd have to read through their T&Cs to see what we're allowed to do!
