Fired for a Stupid Reason?

Ask a Question

Have you ever been let go from a job for a stupid reason?

Sainsbury's fired one of their workers who had been with them for 20 years after failing to pay for some bags for life on the checkout.

I know it's only a few bags but it's still stealing the company are bad for sacking them for that all they need to do is give the person a warning

A bit harsh. Yes they needed a warning that they were caught not paying though.

I think there might be more to this story - people are usually provided verbal warnings and written warnings before this ultimate sanction. The article doesn't go into this.

He stole from the company so what do you expect. He knew what he was doing. He probably thought why should I, I work for them Its free. He got caught out. It would be the same as us If we did It.

Technically theft, but surely a warning would have sufficed. Seems a shoddy way to treat a worker of 20 years really.

That's ridiculous. Given they have been there 20 years I'd be asking them to pay. It was either a mistake that they didn't pay or there's more to it like they were looking for an excuse to sack them and being lazy at work wasn't going to cut it
