Flower Beds to Be Placed in Front of Cash Machines to Protect against Ram Raids
In the News
Ram raids on cash machines are getting so bad now councils are using flower beds as a barrier against them being ripped out
To be honest besides looking pretty i dont think this will make a great difference to the criminals If they use a fork lift truck for instance , they will just lift the concrete structure up and place it out of the way, delaying them by just a minute or so
And at a cost of £100,000 that South Cambridgeshire Council has agreed to pay up for them it is not cheap
I would have gone for the bollards that can raise and lower, they are extremely tough and cannot be lifted out of the way
I did a search and they range from £300 to £2,000 , plus fitting , but how much councils pay for them is another matter, they are so wasteful they would probably ending up paying triple the price of the most expensive ones
But still a lot cheaper than these concrete monstrosities
Its strange how they magically find this cash when a lot are struggling and even going bankrupt
And shouldn't the banks be paying and not the taxpayers ??
Love this idea. Not that cash is used as much anymore. Nicer way to stop crime. Won't actually stop it but it may help.
Jerseydrew I really think the pop up posts are better J , there is limited space for people to move around the concrete blocks , the cost is enormous and they need constant maintaining at further cost
It would be cheaper to install the rising post with a plastic flower glued to the top
I love flower beds.We should have em everywhere but these would be trampled in a nano second.
For goodness sake what a waste of cash strapped council funds! I don’t think a flower bed will stop ram raiders driving their 4x4 to crash down a wall.
Cheaper to give stiff sentences that devastate a criminal when caught to deter crime. I think it used to be called justice
PaxAmerica The problem is P they always seem to get away before the law arrives
I remember reading about a gang that was blowing up cash machines for almost 12 months before they were finally caught
Heres one gang but does not say for how long
Providing that the flower beds are maintained and aren't left to look tatty and straggly then yes, why not, it's just surprising that they can afford them in the first place and the upkeep won't be cheap either.
tumblespots Exactly T, £100,000 is not cheap to protect one, it would be cheaper to employ a security guard to stand there all night
