Flowers and Gardening
Ask a Question
Has anyone else been busy cutting the grass and doing some gardening and what flowers do you like?
My Mum recently bought two orchids as thatโs her favourite flower reduced prices think from Sainsburyโs and some outdoor plants too also on sale offer!!
We have a few plants in the garden, last year first time it was disappointing cause the fruit was so so small! Had to buy from supermarket lol past years they were a very good size!
Some did grow slightly bigger last year but not the actual sizes you buy in store but they also got eaten by slugs and thereโs a squirrel eating them too! Kept taking one bite out of most of our homegrown apples !!
And we have 3 hydrangeas with lots of green leaves growing they never fail to blossom and the colours are so beautiful
My husband has been cutting the grass so our son can play outside but that is it really. We've got a sunflower growing on our kitchen windowsill which will be put out in the garden once it gets warmer.
MrsCraig thank you
Wow thatโs amazing!! Well done for making more people aware of it!
My mum has a plant no idea what itโs called but it just kept growing non stop too it does wilt but always grows and has flowers blooming so much cause its in kitchen on windowsill with so much sun it got taller and nearly reached the top area where window is at! Mum recently cut it down to size haha
You need to google nematodes if you are having slug problems. I use to order mine online, dilute them in water and water my entire garden with it. Voila, if I saw any slugs/snails after that it was a rare day. I still love my flowers/plants and can't wait for my garden to be made wheelchair friendly so I can get out there again.
I live in an apartment so no outdoor space but my daughter is happy for me to potter in her garden.Quite enjoy doing the weeding.
I usually buy plants in memory of my late Nephew Damian on the anniversary of his death 15th April & his birthday July 4th as he absolutely LOVED his garden..
My plants haven't shown their heads this year so I bought these small rose plants from a local shop 5 min away called Pets & Plants on Saturday during my walk around the centre of my area..
I like Tulips but they don't last long, I love Begonias too..
janphoenix51 aw how lovely are the beautiful flowers !! Thanks for sharing the photo and the reason why you buy plants
How much were they?
kitty88uk ...ยฃ5.50 each, I left the wrapping on as they look nice..Our Damian 32, LOVED his garden, very knowledgeable, grew everything from scratch so his 2 young daughters got everything fresh..
janphoenix51 thatโs a good price! Other types of flowers costs so much more!! Itโs unbelievable lol
Wow he sounds amazing with gardening
Sorry about his passing and thank you for sharing the photo of the pretty flowers and about your nephew

That's his sunflower. As I said I need to put another stake in it. It just sprouted one day. I'm hoping it flowers soon. Maybe once it is outside at the end of the month it might start flowering.
My partner and I love gardening, spend many hours tending to it and starting lots of cuttings to give to friends and family. Here is a recent picture.
I have been in the garden the last couple of weeks. We had the awful box caterpillars which took three days to get rid off, picking hundreds of by hand. I have weeded and planted but going away soon so will have more to do when I get back.
eyeballkerry Omg no!! Canโt believe they are in your garden!! Ans that many?!! I dislike bugs lol
Where are you going away to ?
kitty88uk One caterpillar is cute, hundreds of the things was horrible. I was even helping neighbours remove them. They were climbing on the front of our homes so weโre having to shut the windows. ( Then it got very hot, so used my fans!). We are off to Lanzarote at the end of the month.
eyeballkerry Omg sounds scary seeing them!! oh no closing windows no fresh air and hot!! I see sounds great place for holiday! Weather will be hotter right? Have a fun time when you go!
kitty88uk Hopefully weather will be hotter and we have air conditioning in the villa so wonโt be needing my own fans.
eyeballkerry Yeah could do with some sun as I get cold easily here lol too hot I canโt stand it haha
Wow the villa sounds lovely place to stay!
kitty88uk I was away in Portugal last month and have been ill since I got back. Got over one thing, then got the Covid jab which knocked me for six. Hopefully next week I will be clear of everything.
eyeballkerry oh no!! Iโm sorry to hear that! Get well soon! Take better care of yourself~~
Is that so did you get another jab to prepare for this next holiday?
Iโve already had 3 of the jabs ages ago lol and havenโt had any since
Yes fingers crossed you will be fine soon!
kitty88uk Yes, the plan was to get the Covid jab as I have a low immune system and just thought it best as Iโm going on a flight. I always seem to have some reaction to the jab and I have had Covid twice.
eyeballkerry yeah itโs best to get it before going on a holiday trip, best to be safe than sorry!!
Oh is that so, oh no!! Itโs not nice getting it and the damn reactions too!! I was the last in my family to get it lol
My mum got ill before she went to Hong Kong, the usual flu then it got worse when she was there, got better but then when she got back home she was ill again lol
kitty88uk I put it down to basic hygiene and people just not bothering. The last time I got it was on a cruise and the amount of people using the buffet service without washing their hands was madness. I stuck to the restaurants.
eyeballkerry Ew thatโs nasty lol I hate people and their hygiene itโs basic common sense!! Ffs stupid people!! Grr
kitty88uk It doesnโt take much to be hygienic. Obviously we need some germs around. One of my worse phobia is the rail of an escalator. Never touch them.
I have added the photo of my fans. Iโm sure it was you who was askingโฆ.
well some of themโฆ.
eyeballkerry exactly simple basic hygiene!! Yeah I know what you mean!so I never touch it lol
Yes it was me asking lol
How powerful are they? Lol they donโt look it so they are plugged in the phone ?
Handheld one looks good! I hate hot weather if over 22 degrees itโs too much for me!!
kitty88uk All of them work really well. The smaller ones are plugged into my phone or iPod, i generally use these in restaurants.
eyeballkerry very useful and handy fan items to have and can use them whenever you want when you are feeling hot !!
How much do they cost? The handheld fan looks like itโs powerful ?
kitty88uk We purchased the handheld ones from John Lewis. I know you can get cheaper but the quality is excellent. It is powerful and has three settings.
eyeballkerry oh I see! Yes John Lewis does good electric products with 1 year warranty
Or is it more than a year and how much down the fan?
My family always shops there
kitty88uk The fan costs ยฃ12 now but was ยฃ10 when I originally got mine. They come with a two year guaranteed which many other shops would not do.
eyeballkerry I see not bad that itโs a two year warranty! I like that itโs powerful and has 3 settings too. ยฃ12 is very pricey! Not sure where else can buy one maybe from Amazon and May be cheaper
I've stuff on my balcony. It's not pretty. I don't care its for the bees and butterflies. I don't care though. Did warn my neighbour as they have cats and I don't want them getting stung. As our balconies are joined I don't put my plants where the cats can eat them so I don't poison them.
Jerseydrew I see what plants are they for the bees and butterflies? Itโs difficult when you share balconies and that they have cats
I have an allotment where I grow both veg and flowers.I also have a balcony garden which I vary all year round and probably one too many plants indoors as well.I love having plants all about me .They breathe life into the place .I regenerate pot plants as well so always have something to take to someone as a present.
MelissaLee1 oh wow that sounds amazing being able to grow your own vegetables what kinds do you grow? Thatโs very nice of you! Great idea as a gift
