Have You Found That Too Good To Go Has Gone Downhill?

Ask a Question

We used to enjoy looking forward to our Magic Bags from TGTG, but now they're not good at all with Costa and Starbucks being the worst.

Our last Aldi bag just had a load of veg and 20 pints of skimmed milk! What was I supposed to do with 20 pints of milk?

How are you finding the service atm and is it value for money now? Looking at Trustpilot, a lot of people seem to feel the same way that I do.

Hopefully this means shops are producing less waste.

We don't have many shops that take part in TGTG, the ones we did try a while ago, were not hugely worth it. So I'd rather save my money and buy what I want and know or get free items by checking OLIO more often and get free food/items instead of paying for a lucky dip, some of the cashback apps get you some nice free items too.

DeBunny They will end up with exactly the same amount of waste as before because people will stop using the app.

There's never anything in our area on Olio, but we did use the app once to get rid of 20 muffins that we had in an Aldi TGTG bag.

Personally I still find it to be good value. Sure from time to time it’s not always a great selection but overall it’s still good in my opinion

dawarwick That's what I used to think, but not now except for Greggs.

I complained to TGTG about my last Costa bag which had 3 manky sandwiches in it. I told them that they shouldn't be saying that the RRP is £10 on 3 things that were going out of date in a matter of hours. They said that the RRP of the items was £12. Who in their right mind would pay £12 for what is basically yellow sticker reduced stuff?

That is a fair point but I always avoid Costa deals on there. You quickly learn to good and the mickey takers

What was I supposed to do with 20 pints of milk?

You could have listed them on the olio app I'm sure they would be popular and would have gone quickly.

"On OLIO, you’ll find millions of people giving away food & other household items to their neighbours, all for free.

Fight waste. Help your neighbours. Save our planet. Feel amazing!"

ILOVEFANTA You can freeze milk in portion sizes you use on a daily basis, always handy to have in an emergency or can't get to supermarket.

My MIL always freezes her milk as soon as she buys it. It destroys the proteins so may aswell buy that powdered rubbish 🙄

lilyflower yeah freezing would be an option but would take quite a lot of space. Using Olio app would have a allowed many people to benefit from the milk that was unwanted by TheChimp

I recommend folks download it and give it a try.

ILOVEFANTA Used the Olio app before to get rid of a load of Aldi muffins.

We have a hut thingy in the village where people put food, nappies etc and everyone needing anything can just take it, so we took all the milk down there.

Don’t complain please. At least you can buy the reduced products. As for all that milk just make rice puddings and give them to friends and family.

I used to use TGTG quite often but not used it for over a year now, due to not being able to get an actual bag...gave up last month! Was hoping to get an Aldi bag but by the sounds of it they're not great!

I've found more local businesses to be better in terms of the content however I've always had great Starbucks ones - I guess it just depends! Hoping to get my hands on an Aldi one but they're few and far between in my area at the moment 🙂

We no longer get too good to go magic bags. This is due to variety of items in the bags. Plus the price has skyrocketed in my area. We have had several items that were well past their eat by date. Mild as well.

It depends really. There's a choice of Aldi, Costa, Greggs, Londis and Starbucks here - having been in my local Aldi post 9pm before I can't say I'd much want what would probably end up in a bag there, while Starbucks seems to give about 10 minutes notice before bags are offered there so usually miss theirs. Haven't had a Costa or Londis one as they tend to not be available when the time comes (refunds are fast). Have had a Greggs one a few times though and it's usually good value 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not impressed. The first one we had was a good variety of food. All the rest have mainly been bread items.

I've notice its not as good now and so far for what some places are charging it's not worth it starbucks here in Brighton is now £4.00 for a magic bag and I got the same amount of food from Greggs for only £2.59 and Costa is now £3.00 which is ok as you get pretty good stuff I haven't been lucky with any of the groceries stores yet

Depends where you live.I've had some seriously shoddy stuff especially from artisans who give you a cupcake and a stale croissant and value it at £6.Greggs have been knockout though.

I have never used it, it always shows me notifications although in my opinion probably the reason would be they are also part of some charity & they pick good things or either member of staff take it or they throw away

Absolutely agree our experience of Morrisons was appalling with nothing but dated fruit, veg, and salad items and our local sayers are no better, just Donuts and a sandwich and yet 5 minutes before closing they wouldn’t let me have one of the many hot pies n pasties still unsold. With sayers if your face doesn’t fit you get rubbish.

Don’t bother anymore as you’re better just getting your own reduced sticker items.

Had a rubbish one from Costa Merry Hill last time so not bothered since. It is a waste of money if you can't eat what you get and it ends up in the bin. Nothing in the bag was nice and an off smelling tuna roll which could have been disastrous if eaten. Would rather spend my money on something fresh and what I can choose to buy. I am considering uninstalling the app. Have already uninstalled OLIO.

Ilovethebeach gone off tuna would certainly put me off too, honestly sounds grim. 🤮

I pick bags up for my family who aren't fussy eaters so between us it all gets eaten, my teenagers take a lot of filling.

I've been pleased with the olio app, i've given stuff and requested stuff and not had any issues and it's totally free.

I find it hit and miss. I had a great Gregg's bag a couple of weeks ago and yesterday an almost empty one from the same Gregg's, it almost seems it's up to the person filling them how many bags they make up as to how full they are.

I do think it’s hit and miss but it depends what types you get, you get more chance of getting more varied from supermarkets rather than smaller shops or like greggs/cooplands

Just got another crappy bag from Costa. Thought I might give them one last chance, but this is the limit.

No more from TGTG.

I use it to support local businesses such as the independent bakery down the road from me to help reduce waste. Some things like loafs of bread I can freeze and others, such as their delicious pastries, don't last long! I haven't tried it with any major retailers but it sounds like they might not be as good for supporting the cause.

I agree they have really gone downhill. Costa is really awful now and although its cheap to get your goody bag the food inside is just absolute rubbish. Might just as well save your money and petrol cost. Greggs is by far the best deal going.

Tried it for first time recently and travelled around 7 miles to collect the food only to get there and be told that there was nothing to collect. Complained to Too Good To on my return home (another 7 miles of wasted fuel and time) and had to wait best part of a week before I received reply and then did not get refund so had to email them again. Finally got a full refund and a voucher in apology. Unlikely that I will use the service again.

I'm in my 6th year with both Olio and TGTG - sadly nothing in our area on either with respect to food items. At least I use Olio for sharing/reusing items. I've removed TGTG from my phone yet again (4th time) as no use to me.
