Do You Get Free Meals at Work?
Ask a Question
Does your workplace offer free meals?
It would be easier if you work in places that already serve food like cafes and restaurants but maybe the food isn't to your taste anyway? It can be a big help to your finances and could increase staff morale.
No I’ve never worked anywhere that provides meals for the staff. Coffee & tea is good and honestly I think that’s enough as long as there are facilities to store and heat my own food.
jms19 I don't drink tea or coffee so I've never even gotten a free drink lol
I worked in a cafe for about 10 years and you had to pay for everything you could have a battered roll or scone for free but had to pay for anything that you put on the roll got a small discount
Yes in lots of restaurants and pubs I've worked in our meals have been free or are heavily reduced. They all have varied, some you get a choice others you don't.
Midnightflower Did you often take advantage of the free meals then? Or did you prefer to bring in your own food?
SamGoodship I've always eaten at work, where I can. When I lived in restaurants you could get food twice a day. You can't complain about free food, it's a good way to save extra money.
When I worked in the pub and a cafe I got my meals and drinks for free. Where I work has a canteen but I've never used it as I finish at lunchtime.
I work in cafe but only part time or casual. Some days are longer than others. We can have a drink and possibly one item of food depending. Everything else needs to be paid for. However where I work is kind of reduced prices anyway.
Yes, I work in a care home,I'm very lucky, we are allowed to have anything that is left over from lunch and tea and will be going in the bin otherwise, breakfast we can have toast and cereal. tea, coffee and biscuits are free, we also have a bottles water cooler, when the weather's really hot they will fill the staff fridge with a variety of bottled cold drinks for us, coke, lemonade, fanta ect. At the weekends we have cooked breakfast and on Christmas day the staff all sit down together including the cooks and have cooked breakfast cooked and served by the manager as a thankyou ***
SamGoodship yes we are very well looked after, where I work is a non-profit type organisation and they are very generous, however the home I worked in before this one was completely different,it was privately owned, you couldn't have anything and had to pay a weekly fee towards tea and coffee!!!! Meanwhile the tight ass owner lived in a mansion, had a villa in Spain and drove swanky cars, the difference is unbelievable
My work place offers half price meals for staff but only up to a certain amount. Some expensive meals are not allowed.
No, there isn't even a canteen, you bring your own in or buy it from the local cafes or shops. We don't even have free tea and coffee.
I do. Help yourself canteen. Healthy meals. Tinned fish, soups, beans, pulses, rice packs. Fresh bread rolls wraps, crisps fizzy juice, fresh juice fresh fruit and veg. Saves a lot of money
in on Software company that I previously worked at gave fruits every Monday and breakfast every Friday. Besides the usual coffee, tea, cupcakes, pizza at occasions and drinks. Many software/tech companies do. But not in my current work place, and I work remote anyway.
Glad i'm not tempted by unhealthy food too often like crispy cream etc.
No I have to provide/buy my own food. Yesterday I took people to the pub for their Sunday lunch if I wanted anything I'd have to buy my own so rarely do
As a company no they don't provide lunches etc unless you are at a meeting and they provide a buffet. I personally however from time to time treat my team to lunch. Company does provide tea coffee, microwave, fridge and more recently squash
When worked in food factories some provided free food but not often. When worked in cereal factory the vending machine was free and every week they give away 2 pack of cereals. In a salad factory they served free launch a few times in a year and there was factory shop with cheap food.
Did have free meals at one point as we don’t have a break as you’d eat with the persons you supported. They stopped that many years ago and they also don’t provide drinks now either. It’s bring your own now.
